Kansas Judicial Branch Court Services Officer I - 7th Judicial District in Lawrence, Kansas

Location of Employment:  7th Judicial District, Dougals County Kansas

Classification and Grade:  Court Services Officer I - Veteran’s Treatment Court, Grade 36, $2,246.32 bi-weekly

Job Duties:  This is currently a grant position that will be responsible for supervising adult veterans actively engaged in the Veteran’s Treatment Court. Duties included but are not limited to completion of risk/needs assessments, caseload supervision responsibilities, preparing and proofing affidavits to the court, maintaining accurate case records, writing reports to the Court, meeting with and interviewing clients, ensuring community safety, referring to appropriate community resources and providers, and performing drug tests. Drug testing will be performed by urine analysis, PBTs, and saliva testing.  Must attend and participate positively in Veteran’s Treatment Court and maintain positive, professional relationships with community agencies, other court personnel and coworkers.  May be assigned to supervise an additional caseload of adult offenders on probation if there are not enough Veteran’s Treatment Court participants to fill the position’s time and any other duties as assigned. 

Required education and experience:  Bachelor’s degree is required with preference given to degrees in a social services field. This position requires attention to detail and strong written/oral communication skills in addition to computer skills. Ability to work both independently and with a team is required as is the ability to interact with clients and stakeholders in a professional manner. Ability to supervise staff and handle confidential personnel information is required.

Preferred qualifications:  Minimum of two years of experience working in the field of probation and/or corrections is preferred. Risk/needs assessment and EPICS certification as well as knowledge of evidence-based practices is preferred. Ability to maintain calm in stressful situations and multi-task is important. Strong leadership and decision-making skills are desired.  Veteran candidates preferred.

This is a grant funded position, which could be renewed after the year. 

Other:  If not employed by Court Services, the new employee will be subjected to a name based criminal history background check and will have to pass a fingerprint -based background check within the first 30 days of employment.   Applicant must have a valid driver’s license.
