Job Description
The ‘European Transportation Specialist – White Glove Services’ is responsible for directing, coordinating and controlling the overall operation specifically for delivery and installation of equipment dispatched by our European distribution centres or direct by suppliers. This individual is responsible for defining, building and sustaining the infrastructure needed for achieving the highest levels of service (delivery, quality, lead time) while handling freight costs effectively.

Results oriented, metrics leader and transportation professional that has a track record a) in sourcing and contract negotiations with carriers and other logistics providers offering services throughout the EU b) transportation management of a sophisticated network serving the European region.
Experience in transportation, preferably in deliveries of equipment.
Ability to lead projects, hands on mentality (including running own analyses) and ability to write SOP, routing guides and drive implementation with internal & external customers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Review, analyze, supervise and manage white glove transportation activity and spend for assigned lanes, shipping sites and carriers. Cover all elements of transportation management, i.e. addressing costs through rate negotiation and improving costs through process improvements (RFQ, benchmarking, shipment consolidation, routing guides, freight audit & payment, etc) and improving operational metrics (quality, transit time).
Management of white glove transportation cost on local P&L level. Service to be balanced with cost to optimize strategy. Present this to internal partners and implement improvement initiatives.
Work with Sales & Customer Service to ensure end to end order management, from quote, site survey to execution, freight bill audit & reconciliation with quoted services. Project manage the rollout in Europe.
Facilitate formal business review meetings with white glove carriers to evaluate performance scorecards, follow up on corrective actions and work on continuous improvements. This also includes on time payments of carrier invoices supported by the outsourced freight audit company.
Leverage standard processes across the Thermo Fisher enterprise and team-up with the global transportation team for this purpose.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
Proven track record at transport sourcing and contracting.
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business logistics or economics/finance.
3-5 years of transport/logistics management experience preferably with shipper, carrier, and/or consulting firm.
Experience managing a sophisticated, European transportation network serving both domestic and international markets.
Able to work in a complex matrix organization with changing priorities.
Comfortable with hands on managerial style, but able to effectively delegate.
Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all levels of the organization.
Strong written and oral communications skills. Proficient in English. Other languages, such as Dutch, German and French, a plus.
