Summary

Job Title: Manager, Respiratory Care Services

Location: Lancaster, PA

1.0 FTE, Full Time, Monday-Friday. Administrator On-Call one weekend per month.

POSTION SUMMARY:

Manages and coordinates the activities of the Respiratory Care Services and Pulmonary Equipment sections within the Pulmonary Services department. Collaborates with section of Pulmonary Diagnostics to ensure optimal transition of care for pulmonary patients. Performs essential duties as outlined in the job description of a Respiratory Therapist, Clinical Supervisor, and Clinical Coordinator Patient care/customer service includes care/service to patients/customers in the following age groups: pediatric (30 days through 12 years), adolescent (13 through 18 years), adult (19 through 64 years), and geriatric (65 years and above).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Under the supervision of the Director, provides leadership for all aspects of the Respiratory Care Services and Pulmonary Equipment sections.

  • Goals and Objectives – Establishes annual department goals and objectives, including development of new services, improvement of current services, a performance improvement plan, and initiatives related to improving patient and physician satisfaction, as well as patient outcomes.

  • Fiscal – Develops annual operating budget and three-year capital plan. Produces monthly operating report as to performance relative to budget. Produces detailed cost/benefit justifications for new positions and/or additional resources related to volume or other business changes.

  • Personnel – Responsible for personnel management, including hiring, firing, disciplinary processes, and creation of an annual staffing plan, which accounts for increases and decreases in volume. In conjunction with the Education Coordinator, ensures annual required in-services and continuing education for all staff are completed, as well as timely completion of performance reviews.

  • Operations – Oversees smooth day-to-day operations, including, in addition to clinical activities, routine business functions, such as inventory control, appropriate and timely charging, revision of charge codes, and appropriate pricing of services.

  • Leadership – Performs other duties and participates in activities outside of the day-to-day management of the department. Works well with other management peers on interdepartmental projects.

  • Regulatory Issues – Ensures that department and hospital are in compliance with any and all regulatory accrediting and policy and procedure issues.

  • Physician Relations – Ensures staff appropriately interact with physicians. As appropriate, seeks physician input on necessary clinical matters.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary duties listed above:

  • Ensures all work meets hospital and professional policy standards.

  • Evaluates, maintains and recommends service and preventive maintenance contracts.

  • Provides guidance to employee educational activities.

  • Represents the department at professional functions.

  • Acts as a liaison for respiratory care educational partners including PA College and Millersville University

  • Acts in the role of the Director when necessary

  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A registered Respiratory Therapist, issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

  • Bachelor of Science or Respiratory Therapy degree or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Valid PA license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.

  • Four (4) years supervisory/management experience.

  • Five (5) years of experience in clinical respiratory care including critical care

  • A health care provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs, i.e. not excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid or any other federal or state health insurance program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree preferred.

  • Five (5) years of clinical experience as a supervisor/manager.

Equipment/Tools: Computer, Phone, Copier, Printer, Fax, Office Supplies, Ventilators, NCPAP units, patient monitors, transducers,, suction equipment, pulse oximeters, stethoscope.

Software: Microsoft Office Products, Hospital clinical information system, digital Respiratory Clinical Management software.
