Qualifications & Skills:
- 2+ years' experience as a Diesel Mechanic
- ASE Certification an asset
- Valid Ohio CDL license an asset
- Ability to pass a background check and drug test
- Available to work weekends, holidays and evenings on occasion as needed
- Possess manual dexterity
- Pays attention to detail
- Ability to diagnose and repair various types of vehicles and equipment
- Average reading, writing and communication skills
- Ability to problem-solve
- Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, twist, etc.
- Ability to lift 100+ lbs.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry and electrical
- Ability to communicate through text, phone, email and in writing
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Perform minor and major repairs on vehicles, systems, and equipment
- Perform regular diagnostic tests on vehicles using company provided tools and software
- Maintain a preventative maintenance program with documentation on 10+ vehicles and various other equipment.
Responsibilities & Duties (cont.):
- Complies with factory, industry and DOT vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety and combustion control standards as well as emissions
- Use company provided supplies in manner that is conservative and cost effective
- Conduct regular preventative maintenance on all vehicles, equipment and tools; including inspection, tire rotation and oil changes, braking devices, electrical systems, etc. per DOT requirements
- Maintain vehicle records per company policy by recording service and repairs both manually and electronically
- Maintain parts inventory and cleanliness in the shop
- Collaborate with repair team to diagnose problems with vehicles, equipment and tools and plan for appropriate repairs
- Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative safety measures to vehicle and equipment users
- Recycle whenever possible/practical
- Accept other duties as needed, such as repair of hydraulic systems, painting vehicles, body repair as qualified, etc.
- Teach drivers to manage and problem solve their vehicles through telephone, face-to-face interaction as well as scheduled in-service
- Be available via phone, text or in person to trouble shoot maintenance emergencies including after hours to assist in maintaining driver and passenger safety
- Contains costs by using warranty, evaluating service, parts and repair options
- Participate in training exercises such as fire safety, wheelchair securement, child safety seat installation, and fork lift use and monthly safety module
- Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives, adjusting controls and systems
- Review daily maintenance reports and act to correct any deficiencies
- Participate in preparation and execution of annual DOT inspections
- Back up Fleet Image Team
- Regularly review organizational communications via text and email
- Lead by example
- Declare any vehicle out of service that poses a safety hazard
- Utilize the uniform benefit at a 50% minimum rate
- Take care to protect all company tools, equipment and property from damage, theft or misuse
- Utilize the provided time clock for accurate record of hours worked
- Utilize all PPE per policy and OSHA guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned to achieve team goals
- Correct or report any known safety hazards
- Modify work schedule to accommodate seasonal changes in demand
