Lamar Community College Athletic Trainer in Lamar, Colorado

POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking an energetic, highly organized, dynamic professional to join our team. The Athletic Trainer will be the primary, and often sole caregiver providing superior rehabilitative care to injured athletes. Duties include prevention, evaluation, documentation, education, immediate care, referrals, coordination of care of athletic injuries and communicating with coaches, athletes and their parents. As an employee of, and the Colorado Community College System, this position is required to uphold and enforce the policies of LCC and CCCS, and all local, state and federal laws. This position will comply with all student privacy laws (FERPA); and is a mandatory reporter of any suspected illegal activity.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: * Develops preventative, therapeutic, rehabilitative and emergency medical care programs for student athletes. Evaluates injuries and administers emergency first aid and CPR/AED to student athletes during practice, training sessions, and intercollegiate contests. Refers student athletes to physician specialists, hospital emergency room, or allied health care specialists, as appropriate. * Advises and counsels athletes and coaching staff on matters related to injury prevention and care, conditioning, rehabilitation, training, diet, rest, alcohol/substance abuse, and related matters. Measures and applies protective and therapeutic bandaging, wrapping, strapping, padding, braces, guards, and other protective devices to prevent injury to student athletes. Schedules and assists team physicians in the administration of pre-participation physical examinations to prospective student athletes. * Establishes, administers, organizes, and maintains physical examination, health insurance, injury, and treatment records and reports. * Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with health care professionals providing care to student athletes. * Collaborates and communicates with LCC Athletic Director, administrators, coaches and game management personnel on athletic schedules and sport event coverage, including changes in schedules, championship competition and playoffs. * Acts as a liaison between administrators, coaching staff, athletes, and parents. * Advises coaching staff on the severity of injuries incurred by student athletes and on their ability to resume training and re-enter intercollegiate practice and competition. * Maintains athletic training room facilities and equipment in a safe and sanitary condition, including transport vehicles. *Maintains inventory records of athletic training equipment and supplies. * Prepares requisitions for athletic training equipment and supplies. * Travels with teams to provide routine medical care of injured student athletes. *Provides work direction to student employees.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's degree in a related field * BOC Certification

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Master's degree in physical education, health, or a related field is desirable. * Valid American Red Cross or American Heart Association First Aid certificate or equivalent * Valid Class "C" Colorado Driver's license. Travel to locations with teams

WAGES: * $47,000.00 - $50,000.00. The specific salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
