Job Description

Directs the development, coordination and administration of organization Infection Prevention policies, services and programs. Participates in the development and implementation of financial and strategic planning activities. Facilitates quality improvement initiatives and integration of organization values.

Job Responsibility

  • Leads the Infection Prevention function by developing leaders and driving programs and initiatives that support and impact the overall Northwell health system goals.

  • Develops and articulates a long-term strategic vision for areas of responsibility.

  • Promotes infection prevention quality and productivity improvements through involvement in the development of improved procedures, process innovations and changes supporting the strategic direction; plans and implements the utilization of information resources to support the strategic direction and operation.

  • Researches, develops, and coordinates the implementation of strategic plans, policies, and standards based on evidence-based practices to decrease/eliminate infection risks and improve patient safety; participates on multidiscipline committees and task forces to meet organizational and infection prevention/control goals.

  • Participates in planning, organizing, and coordinating infection prevention financial policies and practices to control revenues, disburse funds and conserve assets; monitors fiscal operations including fiscal accounting, reporting and control, billing and payroll, contracting, regulatory cost reporting, internal auditing and budget coordination and forecasting.

  • Ensures collection of appropriate system-wide infection data to identify trends/clusters and improvement opportunities; oversees communication of relevant information to related stakeholders across the organization; oversees site-specific infection prevention plans inclusive of surveillance activities/performance indicators based on population served, services provided, and previous surveillance data; directs development, coordination, and administration of system-wide educational programs for healthcare providers, patients and community regarding infection risks and risk reduction evidence-based practices.

  • Collaborates with employee health services to develop programs that increase vaccination rates and improve exposure processes for healthcare providers; partners with site Infection prevention leaders on epidemiologically important infections, clusters, and exposures to identify infection sources and implement risk reduction interventions.

  • Reviews and directs the planning, design, implementation, and support of electronic surveillance systems for use at department, site, service line and enterprise levels; promotes implementation of imbedded process reminders in health care provider support systems to reduce risk of infection.

  • Ensures compliance with federal, state and local rules, regulations and laws and standards; interprets and standardizes regulatory reporting standards to ensure compliance with government, regulatory reporting and third-party agencies; oversees system-wide preparation for external regulatory reviews to ensure optimal compliance and maintain related accreditation(s).

  • Directs the implementation of Human Resources plans to achieve strategic goals and objectives including organizational development, recruiting, compensation, training and development, and employee engagement and relations.

  • Directs the management and development of professional contacts and community support through identifying and developing new business initiatives and opportunities; serves as an infection prevention and control consultant to other healthcare venues and community settings; evaluates and directs the assessment of services and development of new programs and research projects that support strategic infection prevention goals.

Job Qualification

  • Master's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

  • Current License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State, and Current Board Infection Control Certification required, plus specialized certifications as needed.

  • 10-12 years of relevant experience and 7+ years of leadership / management experience, required.

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.When determining a team member's base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).

The salary range for this position is $152,000-$190,000/year
