Overview

Back of House Operations Manager - Housekeeping/Engineering

Ensure adherence to cleanliness standards in guestrooms and heart-of-the-house areas through effective training, staffing, and supervision. Manage operating supplies efficiently and monitor guest service to uphold guest satisfaction. Oversee preventive maintenance, life safety systems, and utility monitoring while ensuring compliance with standards and regulations. Act as the liaison between Housekeeping, Engineering and Front Office.

Location: The Whaler Resort - 2481 Ka'anapali Parkway Lahaina, HI

Start Date: ASAP

Pay Range: $65,000 - $70,000 / annually

Schedule: Flexible schedule, some weekends, evenings, and holidays may be required

Responsibilities

Housekeeping :

  • Plan, organize, and monitor staff workload to maintain cleanliness standards.

  • Develop and implement expense management controls.

  • Conduct periodic inventory of housekeeping supplies, amenities, and equipment

  • Utilize labor management tools for scheduling and cost control.

  • Interview, hire, train, and manage staff performance.

  • Resolve guest issues to maintain high satisfaction levels.

  • Evaluate furniture and fixtures within a unit and effectively communicate any issues or resolutions to Owner Services for proper follow-up with the owner.

  • C oordinate maintenance projects and preventative maintenance

  • Ensure department compliance with OSHA requirements.

  • Conduct daily and monthly staff meetings, provide guidance.

  • Provide clear direction to staff through verbal and written communication.

  • Perform any other assigned duties.

  • Final inspection of ready unit to ensure that the unit is prepared to meet the standards expected by the owner or the next occupying guest.

  • Ensure all housekeeping work orders are entered properly into the track system for efficient management and timely resolution of issues.

    Engineering :

  • Follow preventative maintenance procedures for guestrooms.

  • Maintain department budget and supplies inventory.

  • Supervise, train, and manage engineering staff.

  • Maintain accurate records and filing systems.

  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of engineering spaces.

  • Identify maintenance needs and train team members in life safety procedures.

  • Lead Safety Program (SWIM) and monthly Safety Committee Meetings

  • Perform any other assigned duties.

  • Ensure all maintenance work orders are entered properly into the track system for efficient management and timely resolution of issues.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years management experience, with at least 3 years in housekeeping/engineering.

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

  • Knowledge of housekeeping operations and management.

  • Ability to resolve conflicts and manage multiple tasks.

  • Understanding of hotel operations, including safety and quality assurance.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Leadership skills to motivate staff and accomplish goals.
