Summary:

The Idaho Department of Correction is currently recruiting for a Maintenance Foreman. This announcement will be used to fill the current vacancy at the South Boise Complex. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining and repairing plumbing fixtures, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, repair or purchase of equipment, and maintain control of residents while performing repair work. This is a working maintenance position and is subject to after hours and weekend call-backs.

Responsibilities:

  • Replace switches, lamp receptacles, fixtures, ballast's, motors, fans and filters.

  • Maintain and repair plumbing fixtures, lavatories, faucets, sinks, tubs, water heaters and drain lines.

  • Patch holes in walls using sheetrock, plywood, tile and plaster.

  • Maintain and repairs heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment such as air compressors, dryers, strainers.

  • Conduct preventative maintenance on mechanical and kitchen equipment.

  • Recommend repair or purchase of equipment; maintain records and date of maintenance work performed.

  • Supervise and direct resident workers.

  • Maintain control of residents while performing repair work; conduct search for weapons, tools, and contraband

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of safety requirements associated with mechanical and construction trade jobs. This is typically gained through completion of a class or seminar (of more than one day) specifically covering safety practices; OR completion of a college level course covering safety practices in commercial or industrial construction/maintenance settings; OR leadwork experience which involved work assignment, direction, and monitoring of safety on work sites.

  • Some knowledge of supervisory practices. Typically gained through completion of a class or seminar (of more than 1 day) specifically covering supervisory practices OR completion of a college course covering supervisory practices OR lead work experience that involved work assignment, direction, and monitoring of staff (such experience on a fill-in basis is non-qualifying unless for a minimum of 3 months).

  • Experience interpreting sketches, blueprints, work orders, and building codes. Typically gained from education, training, or experience in performing this task, but have not yet performed it on a job. (Hobby or work at home experience is acceptable.)
