Pilot Company Sr Manager, Sales Tax in Knoxville, Tennessee

Job Description

This position will require relocation to Knoxville, TN

The purpose of this job is to supervise the operations of the sales and use tax team.

  1. Oversee, lead, and set priorities for the sales and use tax team

  2. Select, coach, train, and develop direct reports, to include appraising job performance and conducting performance reviews

  3. High level review and approve state and local sales tax returns

  4. Manage state and local sales and use tax audit and notices

  5. Review construction, software, and other high dollar invoices for correct taxability

  6. Provide internal customer service including systems set-up management, monthly account reconciliations, and responding to tax questions

  7. Oversee the balance sheet reconciliation process and support of the annual audits to assess control/process effectiveness and identify areas for improvement

  8. Model behaviors that support the company’s common purpose; ensure guests and team members are supported at the highest level

  9. Ensure all Pilot Company initiatives are in compliance with sales tax rules, regulations, policies, and procedures

  10. Complete other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Minimum five years of multistate sales and use tax experience required

  • Minimum one year supervisory experience required

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills required

  • Vertex OSeries and Vertex Returns experience a plus

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred

  • Basic accounting knowledge required

  • Ability to manage and lead a team

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and organizational skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Teamwork, problem solving, conflict management, influencing, and negotiating skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform with a high sense of urgency
