Eaton Corporation Design Drafter/CAD Specialist in Kitchener, Ontario

Eaton’s ES AMER PCS CA division is currently seeking a Design Drafter/CAD Specialist. This role is a new addition to our team and is based at our Kitchener, ON facility.

Eaton has the largest and most experienced team of Power System Engineers (PSE) in the industry, with industry-standard software and advanced modeling and analysis capabilities at their fingertips. This team brings extensive skills and experiences to power system analysis and design. Active participation in technical societies such as IEEE and collaboration with a variety of utilities and industries ensures that our engineers are knowledgeable about today’s cutting edge engineering techniques. We assist customers at every stage of the power system: from substation and distribution system design to renewable energy and smart grid engineering, from safety and reliability-focused studies to power quality and grounding related audits and analyses.

Reporting to a Power Systems Engineering Manager, the incumbent is responsible for preparing preliminary and final electrical drawings for various projects using AutoCAD. The incumbent liaises and co-ordinates with various Engineers to develop complete electrical design packages.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining and updating the Electrical Design Drafting Standards including enhancing our current systems through automation to gain efficiencies.

  • Stay up to date and knowledgeable on new technology and trends in design automation.

  • Prepare electrical engineering drawings including but not limited to site and equipment layouts, conduit layouts, single-line and three-line drawings, protection drawings, control schematics, and bill of materials.

  • Assemble and organize hard copies and electronic sets of project drawings to be used for permits, tenders, approvals, and construction.

  • Ensure projects are completed in compliance with Company policy and procedures meeting any applicable laws and regulations.

  • Liaising and coordinating design work with other Engineers and functional groups.

  • Assisting Engineers with the preparation of technical specifications and technical reports.

  • Occasional site visits where major projects are being considered to familiarize oneself with the site condition, limitations, and opportunities.

  • Other duties as assigned including supporting field service operations and ISO 9001 processes.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Technical Diploma in a Drafting or Design Program using AutoCAD or Electrical Design Program using CAD

  • Three (3+) or more years of experience in an Electrical Design or drafting role

  • Familiar with Autodesk Suite

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • C.Tech or CET

  • Diploma in CAD

  • Previous experience with Inventor

  • Previous experience with AutoLISP for AutoCAD
