Swim Instructor-
Position: YMCA Swim Instructor
Supervisor: Executive Director/Aquatics Coordinator
General Description: Will provide direct leadership to participants in a YMCA swim instruction program that emphasizes positive self-worth, stroke development, fun, fitness, personal safety and basic rescues. They will also be responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants. The incumbent will provide high quality outdoor educational and recreational experiences for participants that focus on the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Responsibilities:
Must be able to demonstrate skills and explain them clearly to class members
Provide an opportunity for participants to complete at least 1 goal in each class during the session.
Must work with individual students within class structure to enable all students to correct faults, improve self-image, and progress in their swimming ability.
Reports 15 minutes prior to class to prepare materials and equipment, dressed in approved attire, and keeps daily attendance records of class participation.
Communicates progress of students with parents before and after each lesson.
Evaluates each participant verbally and written, records progress level for each participant at conclusion of each session.
Display an outgoing personality, enabling him/her to relate well to participants and parents.
Presents progress reports to class participants upon completion of skill level at evaluation time.
Give 100% of attention to class participants and their safety.
Secure a qualified substitute well in advance and provide substitute with roster and lesson plan.
Attend all scheduled meetings and training sessions. Understands that these trainings are mandatory and employment depends on their attendance.
Return all teaching materials to proper storage.
Complete all other jobs as assigned by the Supervisors
Qualifications:

Must be at least 16 years of age
Must hold Basic Lifeguarding Certification.
Must hold current First Aid and CPR/AED certifications.
Must have an understanding of strokes and techniques in the assigned area of instruction
Physical Demands:

Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
