A.T. Still University (ATSU) is seeking an exempt Sponsored Programs Data Analyst for the Kirksville, MO or Mesa, AZ campus. The purpose of the Sponsored Programs (SP) Data Analyst position is to build SP capacity to secure, accept, and manage external sponsor funding with descriptive demographic/education/health-related statistical data. Activities include accurate and timely collection, tracking, management, analysis, and reporting. This position requires subject matter expertise related to state and federal grant funding mechanisms with special attention to very prescriptive federal reporting systems. This position reports to the Director of Sponsored Programs Administration. A high level of synergy is expected with the SP leadership team (Senior Director, Director Pre-award Services, Director of Post-award Compliance and Management, and Content Director SP/Senior Strategist.)

General Job Purpose/Function

  • The Sponsored Programs Data Analyst operates under general supervision; therefore, excellent organizational and time management skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and excellent verbal and written communication skills are paramount.

  • Must be a self-starter, diplomatic, proactive, and use a moderate degree of innovation, analysis, and independent reasoning to complete work that may involve complex problems.

  • This individual will interface with other departmental staff and systems across the grant lifespan and with a variety of faculty, administrators, student researchers, and others while securing/maintaining records of certificates relevant to regulatory body training (e.g., protection of human subjects, financial conflict of interest, etc.) as deemed necessary by the VP of Research and Sponsored Programs.

Major Job Duties

  • Design database structures and collection tools to amass student- and alumni-related specialty, practice-site, and other outcomes data.
  • Maintain confidentiality of data points in use; aggregate student data when feasible to protect personally identifiable information.
  • Lead/supervise the retrieval/validation of data points critical to post-award reporting - with particular emphasis on data points relevant to Health Resources Service Administration (HRSA) grant submissions and awards.
  • Co-lead/co-supervise Post-Award team members in preparing and analyzing information for HRSAs Annual Performance Reporting.
  • Lead/supervise data cleaning efforts to ensure accurate student- and alumni-related specialty, practice-site reporting.
  • Collaborate in record retention and record destruction efforts in compliance with internal and external regulations.

Education/Training

  • 4-year college degree. BS/BA in business, statistical, data analysis, research techniques, or comparable field.
  • Graduate degree (MPH, MBA, etc.) plus accompanying SP experience is helpful but not required.
  • 2-3 years of prior industry experience in creating and maintaining data systems, producing queries/reports, and analyzing data for alignment with external partner/funder requirements.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong deadline management and related organizational skills, including documentation of work deliverables.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to maneuver/learn relevant University systems (CampusVue, etc.).
  • Proficiency in searching the internet, HRSA/CMS data warehouses, and other comparable sources for relevant data points.

  • Work location: Kirksville, MO or Mesa, AZ campus with potential for telecommuting.
  • Position has record retention duties.
