Maritime Administration Sports Specialist (Assistant Women's Basketball Coach) - Excepted Service in Kings Point, New York

Summary This position is that of a Sports Specialist (Assistant Coach, Women’s Basketball) in the Department of Physical Education and Athletics, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York. Responsibilities As a Sports Specialist (Assistant Women's Basketball Coach), you will be responsible for the development and conduct of educational courses and programs; instruction and academic counseling of Midshipmen, and assuming a share of departmental and other academic responsibilities. In addition, your background and credentials must demonstrate the ability to teach classes in Physical Education and perform the duties of Basketball Assistant Coach. The ideal candidate must be highly motivated and experienced professional who works to support the Mission of the USMMA. They must be capable of adjusting to various work environments, physical demands, and schedules. They must be able to work well within the structure of the basketball staff and must be a positive contributor. Requirements Conditions of Employment This is an Excepted Service position. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: SELECTIVE SERVICE: Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for the Selective Service. TRIAL PERIOD: This is an Excepted Service position. This job will be filled by an alternative hiring process and is not in the competitive service. Applicants selected for an excepted service position may be subject to a two-year trial period. GOVERNMENT TRAVEL CARD: This position involves travel. A government contractor-issued travel card will be issued and must be retained for official business only. NOTE: Full-Time, Excepted Service appointment with an Initial Term Not-to-Exceed 13 months; however, each year with a satisfactory performance appraisal, the appointment may be extended for an additional year. Qualifications To be qualified for this position, you must meet the education requirements and have experience teaching college level classes in the required field of study. At least 1 academic year of teaching courses at the high school level (or above) or 1 sports season of full-time experience (or equivalent) coaching and recruiting for a Basketball Program at the college or university level. Your resume and application materials (including college transcripts) must show that you have the education and specialized experience necessary to teach Physical Education related courses at or above the high school level. Highly desirable candidates will provide experience in the development of educational curriculum and/or organizational excellence. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
