This is how you can make a difference at Abbott:

The Operations Shift Manager oversees and ensures the efficient execution of the day-to-day production activities, whilst ensuring that policies and procedures are current and being adhered to. Acting on-site lead outside of standard Monday to Friday working hours. Ensuring production targets and schedules are in line with the plan. This is a shift based position

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of up to approx. 200HC comprising operators, technicians, material handlers and line leads. Ensure the site delivers safe and effective products that meet customer needs whilst maintaining compliance. Monitor product quality and ensure that products meet established quality standards and specifications

  • Manage and allocate resources, such as labour, equipment, and materials, to optimise production efficiency and reduce waste.

  • Supervise and lead the manufacturing team, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluation of employees.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains. Implement lean manufacturing principles and best practices.

  • Address and resolve conflicts or issues that may arise among employees or within the production process

  • Monitors the cost and effectiveness of activities to optimise resources and prioritise spending.

  • Maintain open lines of communication with other departments, such as Supply Chain, Procurement, Technical Services/Engineering and Quality Control, to ensure a coordinated and efficient manufacturing process.

  • Lead the execution of the Manufacturing Operations System (MOS) through structured tier meetings and standard work.

  • Promote and enforce environmental sustainability practices within the manufacturing process, including waste reduction and responsible resource usage.

  • Provide training and development opportunities for employees to enhance their skills and knowledge in manufacturing processes.

  • Address and resolve production-related issues, including identifying the root causes of problems and implementing corrective and preventive actions.

  • Respond to changes in demand, production processes, or unforeseen circumstances with flexibility and adaptability.

  • Promote and manage a culture of safety within the manufacturing team, ensuring that all work is performed in compliance with local, site, divisional and corporate safety standards and regulations. Manage risks associated with all manufacturing activities.

  • Integrate environmentally friendly practices into maintenance processes and seek ways to reduce energy consumption and waste.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum NFQ Level 7 Qualification or equivalent in Engineering /Science or related discipline.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role.

  • Previous experience managing manufacturing shifts / departments in high volume medical device, pharmaceutical, automotive, or equivalent industries.

  • Qualified or experienced in Lean manufacturing, Lean 6 Sigma, etc

  • Previous experience with budgetary planning and control.
