Kilgore College Program Director & Instructor – Radiologic Technology in Kilgore, Texas

Position summary:

The Radiologic Science program is an integral part of the college's occupational education offerings.  The college is looking for a Radiologic Science Program Director/Instructor. 

The person hired in this 10.5-month position will report to the Dean of Health Sciences and be responsible for the department's overall academic and administrative leadership.  The individual will also carry a 9-12 hour teaching load per long semester and summer teaching responsibilities.  Additional summer teaching responsibilities may be available based on programmatic needs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Hiring, oversight, and evaluation of faculty and staff including orienting and mentoring all new faculty (including adjuncts) to the teaching responsibilities in the Rad Science program at the College and in the clinical sites

  • Works with clinical coordinator and admin support to Secure /renew contracts from clinical education affiliations

  • Participate in the development of the curriculum

  • Manages program in accordance with JRCERT standards

  • Ensures the curriculum, policies, procedures, and operations of the program meet ARRT standards

  • Participate in accreditation reporting, preparation, and record-keeping

  • Inventories and maintains the necessary supplies and equipment according to the budget projections

  • Plans annual program budget

  • Assessment & reporting

  • Facilities management/coordination

  • Equipment oversight and replacement

  • Work closely with other departments in the division to manage shared space and resources

  • Maintain program enrollment

  • Seek opportunities for program growth and expansion

  • Instructor

  • Prepares for and teaches classes as assigned while making good use of class time and keeping all classes for the scheduled period

  • Develop appropriate grading policies and methods of student assessment to monitor and communicate academic progress

  • Provides complete information to students regarding course syllabi, objectives, text, and materials required for the courses taught

  • Maintains accurate records of student attendance and academic progress

  • Recognizes individual differences in the classroom and adapts instructional techniques accordingly

  • Encourages and motivates students in a positive/professional manner to do their best

  • Refers students to appropriate staff, office or resource person for information, guidance, financial assistance, placement, etc.

  • Enforces regulations in the school catalog and student handbook

  • Attends scheduled faculty, department, and committee meetings

  • Uses college equipment and property appropriately and has students do the same

  • May be required to teach online

    Minimum Knowledge & Skills Knowledge in:

  • CAAHEP rules and regulations

  • Surg Tech curriculum, implementation, revision and evaluation

  • Counseling skills (students, faculty and staff)

  • Applicable computer programs and equipment

  • Public relations principles and practices

  • Supervisory principles

  • Budget planning and monitoring

  • Regulatory issues pertaining to program

    Skills in:

  • Monitoring and evaluating staff

  • Prioritizing work and performing multiple tasks

  • Using computers and software application programs

  • Designing curriculum and course offerings

  • Facilitating effective group interactions

  • Solving problems

  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Preferred Knowledge & Skills

  • In addition to the minimum skills, it is preferred that the incumbent have experience with

  • Surg Tech curriculum development, implementation, revision, and evaluation

  • Grant writing and management

  • Program assessment

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Proficiency in curriculum design, program administration, evaluation, instruction, and academic advising

  • Maintains current knowledge of discipline and educational methodologies through professional development

  • Has attention to detail and prioritizes tasks to multi-task effectively

  • Able to demonstrate good customer service and professionalism

  • Proficiency in typing, Microsoft Office, and email etiquette

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)

  • Proficiency in problem resolution and critical decision making

  • Uses interpersonal communication to establish and maintain effective working relationships as well as effective student-teacher relationships

    Minimum Position Requirements:

  • Master's degree required; Doctorate preferred

  • Three years of professional clinical experience in Medical Imaging

  • Three years of instructional experience

  • Current registration in radiography from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or an equivalent

  • Familiarity with JRCERT Accreditation Standards

  • Candidates with post-primary certifications preferred

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

  • No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

  • Tuition scholarships are for the employee and dependent children. 

  • Compensation for this 10.5-month position is based on years of teaching at institutions of higher education, and highest level of education. Base pay for no experience ranges from $50,167 for a master’s degree to $58,193 for a doctorate. Overload and summer classes are paid separately.  

    Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program. As a result, employees/retirees of the college are subject to the federal Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and possibly the Government Pension Offset (GPO) laws.
