Kilgore College Instructor - Psychology (2 openings) in Kilgore, Texas

Job Summary

The Social/Behavioral Sciences department has four full time faculty members who teach courses including introduction to psychology, human growth and development, sociology, and social work. While working closely with the department chair, this position will report to the instructional division dean of Arts and Mathematical Sciences.

Responsibilities and Duties

This faculty position will begin in September 2024.  This is a nine-month on-campus faculty position with a full load consisting of 15 contact hours and 10 office hours.  The college operates on a four day (Monday through Thursday) teaching schedule, with occasional meetings or professional development activities scheduled on Fridays.   Expectations for this position may include the following: teach in person afternoon and/or evenings (non-peak times); teach in person dual credit classes in high schools; develop and teach web classes; develop and teach hybrid or blended classes; and use instructional technology in the classroom.  Primary responsibility is the teaching of Psychology 2314, Lifespan Growth and Development and Psychology 2301, General Psychology.  Other responsibilities may include participation in the general education/assessment program, on-going curriculum planning and review; pro fessional/instructional development; participation in committee activities; student registration, advisement, recruitment, and retention activities; and other related duties as assigned.

All full time faculty are required to complete online course certification through the KC Faculty Innovation Center within their first year of employment.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s degree in Psychology with preference given to applicants with at least 18 graduate hours in any additional discipline within the Social/Behavioral Sciences

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience as a college instructor and a commitment to excellence in teaching is preferred.

  • Preference will be given to applicants with three or more years of college teaching, and a second teaching field that falls within the purview of the Kilgore College Social/Behavioral Science.

  • Compensation for this 9-month position is based on years of teaching at institutions of higher education, and highest level of education. Base pay for no experience ranges from $43,000 for a master’s degree to $49,880 for a doctorate; years of experience teaching in higher education factored in on top of base. Overload and summer classes are paid separately.   

    Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program. As a result, employees/retirees of the college are subject to the federal Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and possibly the Government Pension Offset (GPO) laws.
