Job Purpose: The Business Applications Specialist is responsible for the configuration, deployment and support of the different business applications used by CFI. In this role, the Business Applications Specialist is expected to become an expert in their assigned business applications and a knowledgeable backup to support their peers’ business applications. The Business Applications Specialist must demonstrate the highest levels of technical knowledge, productivity, teamwork, customer service and professionalism.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintaining business application integrity, application configuration, process improvement, basic SQL query/reporting, system-administration related tasks, direct user support, troubleshooting, train-the-trainer training, and other duties as assigned.

  • Responsible for development and maintenance of documentation associated with configuration, support, and troubleshooting/resolution of issues.

  • Maintain and support a variety of business applications.

  • Participate in implementation, configuration, updating and maintenance of business applications.

  • Work with both staff and solutions specialists from partners and vendors as appropriate to address and prepare for upgrades, integrations, process improvement efforts, and issue resolutions as required to support the use of business applications.

  • Support needs associated with account setup, configuration, auditing and security within the business applications.

  • Participate in application testing, train-the-trainer training, and assist in the development of business documentation to ensure successful systems deployment and on-going use.

  • Work with end-users and management to understand system and process issues; evaluate business processes, workflows, procedures, and system usage for efficiency and recommend improvements.

  • Evaluate and analyze the use of applications, recommend system optimization, including new functionality, enhancements, integration, and reporting.

  • Elicit requirements using staff interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, business process reviews, use cases, task and workflow analysis.

  • While gathering requirements, provide technical expertise on the processes and workflows within the business solution to ensure effective utilization of the system and to avoid unintended consequences that change may create.

  • Create application requirements, functionality specifications, and workflows documents.

  • Assist management (and occasionally leads) in building business cases for process changes and investment in technology or software.

  • Aid in the development and implementation of a variety of workflows within the business systems to ensure accuracy and efficiency as well as provide quality assurance to workflows that help to maximize the value of technology solutions.

  • Help manage the scope and change control of projects in coordination with IT management and business partners.

  • Validate results by testing applications, coordinate user acceptance testing and signoff.

  • Willingness to learn new applications and technology.

  • Basic SQL skills include simple queries and reporting.

Required Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure and Credentials: (Where appropriate, education and/or experience may be substituted)

Minimum Required Education: Associate degree in Information Technology or related field.

Minimum Required Experience : Minimum of 5 years applications support experience. Strong analytical and product management skills, thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements. Technical knowledge to analyze, isolate, duplicate and document software problems.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of SQL.

  • Basic understanding of report writing.

  • Experience in end-user training and user documentation.

  • Experience supporting/administering business applications.

  • Basic Systems Administration experience

  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, and Teams.

  • Adapts to changing business needs, conditions, and work responsibilities.

  • Examines data to grasp issues, draw conclusions, and solve problems effectively.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate business needs into technical requirements.

  • Develops fresh ideas that provide solutions to all types of workplace challenges.

  • Ability to establish positive interpersonal relationships.

  • Earns others’ trust and respect through consistent honesty and professionalism in all interactions.

Physical Requirements, Visual Acuity, and Work Conditions:

Physical Requirements : Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.Most of the work is accomplished at a computer terminal. The incumbent must be able to sit or remain stationary at a computer terminal for long periods of time.

Visual Acuity: The worker must have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal.

Working Conditions : The work environment can be an office setting. This position frequently works with office equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, photocopiers, fax machines, and multiline phones. Some after-hours or weekend hours may be needed for urgent situations.
