New Bolton Center has an ongoing need for Veterinary Technicians. This posting describes the basic responsibilities and requirements for this role. Veterinary Technicians will perform nursing duties under the supervision of the Lead Technician. Nursing care will be administered to hospitalized large animal patients, performing basic treatments and procedures, emergency management and teaching.

Job Description

This position is located in Kennett Square, PA (Chester County) which is approximately 33 miles outside of Philadelphia. There is no public transportation to this location. You must have your own transportation.

Job Responsibilities

Veterinary Technician A

New Bolton Center is also offering a unique experience that is ideal for, but not restricted to, individuals strongly considering veterinary school or enrolled in a veterinary technician program. The ideal applicant is looking for an immersive large animal experience at a top veterinary teaching institution.

This individual will work alongside members of the New Bolton Center nursing and clinical care teams to provide basic patient care, handling, and animal husbandry duties. All required skills will be taught. They will perform treatments on patients under direction of Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVT) including but not limited to: patient monitoring through use of physical examination, administration of medications (oral/intramuscular/intracatheter), administration of ocular medications through a subpalpebral lavage system, preparation of patient medications, milking mares and feeding neonates, and preparing IV fluids for patients. Educational opportunities will be available, working closely with veterinarians and veterinary nurses. This individual will rotate through all treatment shifts including 6:30a-3p, 2:30p-12:30p, and 9p-7:30a.

Veterinary Technician B

This Certified Veterinary Technician will provide nursing care to emergency and in-house patients and share rounds with the incoming shift. Perform all admissions and discharges for animals under their care. Assist in teaching both veterinary and veterinary technician students. Submit comprehensive student evaluations for Harcum students to the rotation supervisor in a timely manner.

Communicate patient needs with clinicians and colleagues. Assist with research projects. Place patient charges in EMR on a daily basis and maintain patient medical records. Escort clients to their animal for visitation.

Qualifications

Veterinary Technician A

Enrolled in an accredited veterinary technician program or a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Animal Science, or Equine Studies. Strong interest in applying to veterinary school or becoming a certified veterinary technician. 0-1 years of large animal handling experience preferred but not required. Ability to perform strenuous work and tolerate exposure to weather, chemicals and allergens required. Ability to work independently.

Veterinary Technician B

Must be a credentialed veterinary technician (CVT, LVT, RVT or equivalent). Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively required. Must have excellent communication skills both orally and written. Horse handling skills are preferred but not required. Must be able to work well with others. Computer skills required. 1-3 years of experience required.
