GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Network Transport Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the network infrastructure meets business objectives and data communication needs. This position is also responsible for the design, installation, maintenance and monitoring of the local area networks (LAN's) and wide area networks (WANs) utilized to interconnect computer and medical systems throughout Bryan facilities. The Network Transport Engineer develops and updates the LAN/WAN documentation for monitoring network activity in order to proactively ensure high quality service levels, and for planning improvements to and expanding the network as necessary.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
  2. *Designs, implements and maintains a standards-based network infrastructure capable of meeting and anticipating future needs of the Bryan Medical Center enterprise; communicates design requirements to vendors and internal staff.
  3. *Prepares and maintains network topology maps, schematic drawings, and other documentation required to facilitate network recovery and implementation of adds, moves and changes; provides training and technical assistance on installation and maintenance of network systems and applications.
  4. *Ensures that network hardware and software systems are installed and configured consistent with applicable policies; ensures availability and security of the network and its services; recommends and prepares policies and standards for the network infrastructure and transport services.
  5. *Provides technical oversight and work direction for external network contractors and internal network support personnel; works with external consultants and vendors to ensure that all network designs are standards-based and meet with facility strategic objectives.
  6. *Under the direction of the Technical Services Manager, determines the technical status of the network and plans for future capacity needs; provides technical support to departmental staff to ensure network functionality, standards and security are met.
  7. Provides consulting assistance to affiliated entities in the area of network design and implementation as appropriate.
  8. Enters restricted access areas, without supervision, to perform assigned work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associates degree in Computer Science Engineering or equivalent field of study required. Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field of study preferred. A minimum of five (5) years experience designing, implementing and supporting complex LAN/WAN networks in commercial environments required.
