Big Island Substance Abuse Council Billing Specialist in Keaau, Hawaii

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Billing Specialist to join our team. The Billing Specialist is a qualified staff memeber who will assist with daily activities in the Fiscal Department, with the abilitiy to provide support to the Chief Financial Officer, Accountants and /or it sdesignee. The Billing Specialst will be responsible for accurately processing and submitting medical claims, ensuring timely reimbursement, and maintaining accurate patient records. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of medical billing and coding procedures, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

-Position Qualifications

Minimum Education"

High School diploma or graduate of an accredited business or secretarial school

Preferred Education/Experience:

Minimum of two (2) years clerical experience, two (2) or more years' experience in billing functions, preferably in a human service non-profit agency

Required Certification/Registration:

Basic Life Support: CPR Annually, First Aid (every 3 years), TB Annually; Valid State of Hawaii Driver's License, Medical Clearance

Specific Competencies:

Refer to attached Performance Standards/Indicators. Participates and maintains competencies/skills required for the positions

Equipment Used:

Agency assigned computer with a variety of software applications, fax machine, Xerox machine, scanner, multi-line telephone, Next Gen

Working Environment:

Modern well-lighted, air-conditioned work areas. Exposure to infectious disease is a minimal risk. Noise level in the environment is usually moderate. Verbal/physical assault is a minimal risk

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to assist with direct client care;

  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;

  • Listening skills necessary to effectively respond to staff, clients, managed care providers and vendors and clients

  • Proven experience as a Billing Specialist or similar role in a medical setting

  • Strong knowledge of medical billing, coding, and terminology
  • Proficient in using electronic medical records (EMR) software (Next Gen) j
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with daily activities

  • Process Managed Care insurance billing for substance abuse care and review with CFO to ensure accuracy

  • Process all ADAD monthly billings and review with CFO to ensure accuracy

  • Process other contract billings as assigned

  • Maintain billing spreadsheet for all programs and contracts

  • Maintain all client billing files

  • Reconcile client services to authorization and report discrepancies to CFO

-Follow up on client eligibility for all Managed Care clients to ensure appropriate coverage

-Follow up on outstanding insurance claims for all Managed Care clients

  • Follow up on Managed Care denials as soon as received

  • Follow up on outstanding aging (monthly)

  • Prepare adjustments monthly and report for approval to CFO

  • Communicate with Counselors on all Managed Care requirements

-Assist in monthly TLP Daily Census forms and verify for paperwork submission

  • Ensure timely monthly billing. ADAD - no later than the 10th of each month. Managed Care - no later than the 13th of each month

  • Post Claimtrak progress notes and distribute assignment to Fiscal Clerk(s) for processing of encounters

  • Oversee data entry and reconciliation of ADAD billings

  • Oversee guarantor maintenance of other Fiscal Clerks

  • Attend workshops, seminars and conferences as determined by supervisor

  • Assist with all other duties as assigned by the CFO

  • Assist in filing as requested

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
