JOB TITLE: Instructor, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning)DEPARTMENT: Trades InstitutePAY RANGE: Trades and Industrial Arts 3/4. Short-term classes may include, but are not limited to RV Technicians, Manufacturing, Electrical, Production Technicians, and Construction. Courses will include alternative delivery methods, day, evening, or weekend times. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Provides career-oriented instruction and support to students to assist them in the development and/or improvement of HVAC systems and skillsTeaches short term courses that may include electrical, manufacturing, production, and constructionPromotes and coordinate short-term classes that align with current programs and offeringsProvides quality instruction by using effective lesson plan development and strategiesFosters positive student and community relationsMaintains and submits instructional records in accordance with requirementsIntegrates subject area with other related curriculaMaintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policiesWorks professionally with college faculty and staff to aid with the educational processRemains current in practices, trends and research related to areas of assignmentAttends meetings and participates in student and/or program assessment as directedPerforms other related duties as assignedReports to Director, Trades and Industrial ArtsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Associate’s degree or higher in an HVAC-related field OR completion of a professional or certified HVAC Technician program, AND/ORThree years of work experience as an HVAC technician or related fieldPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Associate degree or higher in an HVAC related fieldProven knowledge of the HVAC industryExperience teaching in a secondary, post-secondary or higher education environmentExperience in differentiated instruction for diverse student populationsFive or more years of experience in HVACKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Ability to effectively teach content materialAbility and willingness to serve as a representative for the College by interacting appropriately with the communityDemonstrated skill in creating and managing a work climate of collaboration, collegiality and team workAbility to work within policies and procedures of FVCCAbility to maintain effective and positive professional relationshipsStrong commitment to providing quality customer service and collaboration by creating a welcoming and supportive environment for a variety of culturally diverse backgroundsAbility to work with students, colleagues, and supervisor in a collaborative and professional mannerAbility to work within and support policies and procedures of FVCCAbility and willingness to serve as an ambassador for the College by interacting appropriately with the college community and communityAbility to maintain effective and positive professional relationships with staff, students, and publicAbility to follow and issue instructionsDemonstrated communication, presentation, educational service and interpersonal skillsAbility to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgroundsAbility to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levelsAbility to occasionally work non-traditional schedules for events, including evenings, and weekends, as neededAbility to maintain a high degree of confidentialityAbility to pass a criminal background checkAbility to respond in the event of an emergencyAbility to perform a Medium Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry.
