General Description:
Responsible for the leadership, coordination, and administration of all junior high and high school athletic programs, interscholastic athletics and extracurricular student activity events. Works closely with school administration, staff, students, and parents to foster a safe, organized, and engaging extracurricular environment that supports positive student development and school spirit.
Essential Job Elements:
- Manage and coordinate all junior high and high school athletic programs and extracurricular activities.
- Ensure programs align with district goals and AIA regulations.
- Promote student participation and inclusivity in athletics and activities.
- Communicate regularly with the principal and superintendent regarding programs, concerns, issues, etc.
- Recommend coaching assignments to the principal and supervise coaches.
- Evaluate coaches performance annually with the principal. Develop improvement plans annually for the coaches together with the principal as needed.
- Conduct and/or facilitate training for coaches.
- Confirm eligibility of student athletes.
- Schedule all home and away athletic events and post game schedules to district website.
- Schedule use of facilities and coordinate practice schedules.
- Arrange for game officials, crowd supervision and event workers.
- Schedule team transportation.
- Attend athletic events as supervisor and director in charge of events.
- Develop and manage the athletic budget.
- Recommend equipment and athletic supply needs and purchases.
- Ensure procedures for ticket and concession sales, comply with district policies and procedures; ensure accountability for all receipts.
- Act as liaison to the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) and represents the school at athletic directors meetings.
- Work with and assist other personnel as may be required.
- Provide appropriate care for the safekeeping and protection of uniforms, equipment, facilities and other assets.
- Ensure compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures and with applicable federal (NFHS), state (AIA), and district codes, regulations, and requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student, staff and management related information.
- Support with integrity the mission, vision, goals and positive culture of Joseph City Schools.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of sports and sports management principles.
- Ability to handle conflict and resolve issues effectively.
- Understanding of school and state athletic policies.
- Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Physical Requirements:
Frequent standing, walking, moving, sitting, speaking, hearing, reaching with arms and hands, stopping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus. Repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers.
Working Conditions:
Employee may regularly work both indoors and outdoors. Noise level in the work environment may be moderate to high. The work environment may vary from extremely cold to extremely hot. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with time constraints and interact with students, other employees, and public.
