Cambria County Child Development Corporation Assistant Teacher in Johnstown, Pennsylvania

Qualifications/Experience Required General Qualifications cited in 55 Pa. Code 3270.241 and Keystone STARS

  • Be a graduate of an approved 2-year college or university having specialized in Child Development, Early Childhood, or Elementary Education.
  •  Be a graduate of an approved 2-year college or university and submit documentary evidence of successful completion of a minimum of 24 semester hours in the Theory of Child Development, Early Childhood, or Elementary Education.
  •  Have completed a minimum of 2 years of college or university credit, totaling 60 credits, in an approved institution and submit documentary evidence of successful completion of a minimum of 24 semester hours in the Theory of Child Development, Early Childhood, and Elementary Education.
  • Assistant Teachers may become certified as teachers upon submitting documentary evidence of the completion of 2 years of teaching on the Assistant Teacher Certificate in a nonpublic non-licensed, a licensed or accredited Nursery School or Kindergarten, and a minimum of an additional 24 semester hours in the Theory of Child Development, Early Childhood, and Elementary Education at an approved college or university.

     

General Description: The Assistant Teacher is responsible for participating in a cohesive teaching team, assisting with the coordination of curriculum, and helping to assist in management of the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. This includes, but is not limited to, structuring and implementing lesson plans to ensure developmentally appropriate programming, developmentally appropriate transitional activities, and maintaining the appropriate child/staff ratio. Assistant Teachers must understand the children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a safe and developmentally appropriate preschool program in accordance with all relevant policies and procedures required by, but not limited to, PA DHS, Pre-K Counts, Keystone STARS, PA Department of Education, OCDEL, and CCCDC
  • Implement lessons relevant to Early Childhood Education and PA Early Learning Standards aligned to the curriculum used by the Pre-K Counts Program at Morrell Neighborhood School, 413 Power Street, Johnstown, PA 15906
  • Maintain positive, professional, open communication with parents/guardians, families, classroom supports, and all individuals within the classroom and school setting
  • Use assessment, observation, documentation, and any necessary means to measure progress and development in children throughout the school year to ensure Kindergarten readiness
  • Follow daily schedule and the Greater Johnstown School District calendar; attend Act 80 and Professional Development as needed or instructed by the Education Director
  • Maintain Professional Development Record and requirements (24 hours)
  • Attend all staff meetings
  • Check employee email daily
  • Perform other related duties as required and/or assigned
