*Overview of Responsibilities: *

The Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing materials from KJLC qualified suppliers who offer the best quality and value. The Buyer also ensures that the materials are delivered on time and in compliance with the company's policies and procedures. The Buyer demonstrates high standards of ethics and professionalism in all aspects of the procurement process.   

*Key Job Elements: *

  • Create and issue purchase orders to satisfy sales orders, production orders, stocking and service requirements 
  • Respond to price and delivery requests for non-stocked items as required by the sales, service, test and production departments. 
  • Evaluate stocking levels based on historical transactions and sale forecasts to minimize the inventory required to satisfy customers 
  • Negotiate with new and existing suppliers to achieve the best product price, lead time, quality, and packaging for KJLC and manage vendor relationships, resolve quality issues, onboard new vendors, and implement process improvements. 
  • Utilize inventory management and purchasing programs where possible, such as, JIT, MRP etc 
  • Maintain the item master and the purchase order details for assigned products 
  • Deliver performance feedback to the suppliers regarding quality, on-time deliveries, and customer service satisfaction 
  • Process returns to vendors for credit, replacement or repair in a timely manner and when needed 
  • Deliver timely communication, innovate procurement methods, and enhance business performance 
  • Partner with the accounting team to ensure financial transaction integrity/accuracy on all purchase orders 
  • Ability to read, comprehend and understand drawings, material specifications and BOMs 
  • Ensure timely compliance with Company workplace policies and procedures 

*Qualifications: *

*Required *

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in experience 
  • 1 - 3 years' experience and/or education in procurement and inventory management 
  • Working knowledge of computer programs for word processing, email, and spreadsheets 
  • Working knowledge of purchasing techniques including RFQs, blanket orders and product demand discounts that improve strategic costing capabilities 
  • Occasional domestic travel for vendor visits up to 5% 

*Preferred *

  • Experience in purchasing raw materials (steel, aluminum, sheet stock) 
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles
