Job Description

The Jacksonville Public Library is actively seeking a Library Systems Administrator. This position reports to the Assistant Director for Systems and Technology and is responsible for managing and maintaining library technologies that support the mission and work of the Jacksonville Public Library. The Library Systems Administrator will serve as the administrator for the Library’s integrated library system, computer time/print management system, other library systems, and their related components. This is a highly collaborative role requiring close interaction with teams across the library, the City of Jacksonville’s Information Technologies Division as well as customer and vendor contact.

Examples of Work

Primary responsibilities include the following:

  • Manages the administration and configuration of the Library’s integrated library system, including database administration, testing, online catalog, circulation, acquisitions, cataloging, serials management and statistical data reporting.

  • Manages the administration and configuration of the Library’s computer time/print management system in conjunction with the City’s Information Technologies Division including policy configuration, testing and statistical data reporting.

  • Supports the overall mission of the Library by providing customer service in a manner that creates a positive customer experience.

  • Assists with administration of other assigned library systems.

  • Serves as a technical liaison with vendors of assigned systems.

  • Serves on work groups related to assigned systems.

  • Manages projects related to assigned systems.

  • Troubleshoots hardware and software problems with assigned systems.

  • Uses a variety of software tools to extract and manipulate data from various sources.

  • Develops customized user services and solutions using vendor APIs to address Library needs.

  • Plans and coordinates system upgrades with vendors and ITD.

  • Provides training, instruction and documentation for assigned systems as needed.

  • Researches and recommends information technology and library systems (hardware/software) and solutions that keep pace with current best practices in public libraries.

  • Assists and advises staff and administration with policy changes related to assigned systems.

  • Communicates clear direction, manages for results, and leads organizational change.

  • Assists with the Library’s annual and strategic planning process as they relate to library systems.

  • Works with diverse populations to provide services in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner.

  • Assists with maintaining appearance standards by reporting facilities issues and picking up litter on library grounds.

  • Performs related work as required.

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and

  • Four (4) years of experience in systems analysis, implementation, and administration.

  • Working knowledge of programming/scripting languages such as SQL, Perl, Python, JavaScript, UNIX shell scripting or like programs and languages.

Preferred:

  • Library systems experience.

  • A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited program.
