Summary/Objective

The Regional Operations Manager is responsible for managing rail terminal activities, including customer relations, scheduling, employee relations, budgets, staffing, safety, and achieving daily, monthly, and yearly production goals.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as the primary contact for customers.

  • Manage a team of supervisors and operational staff.

  • Schedule labor and adjust staffing levels based on business needs.

  • Complete daily tasks and collaborate with the VP of Rail Services to manage rail operations.

  • Oversee and manage yard planning.

  • Interview and select team members for hiring.

  • Maintain effective relationships with local union leaders.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position includes direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

The work environment may vary and can include a well-lighted, heated, and/or air-conditioned indoor office, rail environments, production settings, outdoor/indoor shop environments, or enclosed vehicles with adequate ventilation and protection from extreme weather conditions.

Physical Demands

This position involves light physical activity, including non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative or production/technical nature. Manual dexterity is required to reach and handle items.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. The standard hours are 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, during the day shift. This position often requires overtime.

Travel

Up to 75% travel by land and/or air is required.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university

Two to four years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent

Four to ten years related experience and/or training in Maritime, Transportation and/or Logistics industries.

Computer Operations

Intermediate skills in personal computer operations, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, etc.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be able to obtain a TWIC badge (Transportation Working Identification Card) and eRailSafe certification.
