Job Title:

Adult ICU Pharmacy Supervisor

Job Summary:

To supervise, coordinate, and evaluate pharmaceutical services in an assigned area. To assure that pharmacy operations conform to established federal and state regulations, university policies and procedures, and JCAHO standards and provide for the delivery of optimum pharmaceutical care.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree or Pharm D from an accredited School of Pharmacy and two (2) years of experience.

 

Completion of a pre-employment drug screen required.

 

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:  Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Pharmacist in the state of Mississippi; State of Mississippi Controlled Substance License.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, pharmacy recordkeeping, pharmaceutical techniques, and pharmacy laws and ethics. Knowledge of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing side effects, and proper administration. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Verbal, mathematics, spelling, and reading skills. Interpersonal skills. Ability to train, motivate, and supervise employees.

 

Responsibilities

 

Oversees the daily operations of an assigned pharmacy area; supervises subordinate staff to include work allocation, scheduling, training, evaluation, and problem resolution.

Participates in quality improvement and quality assurance programs; ensures compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and JCHAO standards governing controlled substances.

Creates and maintains statistical reports tracking adverse drug reactions, medication errors, clinical interventions, employee narcotics usage, and /or other relevant pharmacy database information.

Collaborates with vendors and information system personnel to identify pharmacy software, hardware, and system requirements and resolve any technical problems.

ompiles charges for prescriptions filed; maintains accountability and cost records on drugs and pharmaceutical supplies prepared and dispensed.

Plans and conducts meetings with subordinates to ensure compliance with established practices, implements new policies and procedures or departmental goals, and keeps abreast of changes and standards.

Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, occasional reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)
