Position Summary:

Under general supervision of the Uris Hall IT Manager, provide computer support for academic and administrative staff in Uris Hall as a Uris Hall IT Support Team member. Primary support will be for the Department of Sociology, but the incumbent is expected to actively support other departments in Uris Hall, Malott Hall, and AD White on a daily basis and as determined by the supervisor.

Provide IT support for faculty, staff and grad students in a broad and diverse environment. Maintain & upgrade Windows and MacOS computers, diagnose hardware/software/network problems, and perform installations and repairs. Responsible for Windows and Mac OS client security. Responsible for printer setup and support. Create and maintain support documentation for supported areas.

This position is expected to work on campus. Flex time will be made available when appropriate and subject to the approval of the Manager.


What We Need

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and up to two (2) years' relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in supporting computer hardware and software (Both Mac and Windows) in a moderately complex environment.
  • Familiarity with Linux OS (and willingness to learn more).
  • Familiarity with computer security software & concepts (Anti-Malware, Firewalls, etc.).
  • Experience with backup software and concepts.
  • Ability to diagnose/troubleshoot complex user problems and affect their resolution quickly.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP connectivity and configuration.
  • Experience with "Hands-On" End-User Support.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, high attention to detail, and a strong work ethic with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a busy environment quickly.
  • Superb customer service skills are necessary, as is the ability to adapt approach, language, and style to different audiences.
  • Aptitude to regularly work with team members in asking for and providing assistance with support issues.
  • Ability to work well independently and often manage, prioritize, and resolve numerous tasks effectively and quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to communicate professionally (both written and verbal) and in a timely manner with customers.
  • Ability to work well with and accommodate a wide variety of users possessing varying levels of computing skills.
  • Cross-train with team members in support of Uris Hall IT and A&S IT.
  • Must be flexible and willing to learn, adapt, and thrive in a changing IT environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with windows server and active directory administration.
  • Familiarity with the general computing/networking and support environment (e.g., Active Directory, Configuration Manager, Jamf & Team Dynamix) at Cornell University.
