Ford Motor Company Staff Battery System Engineer in Irvine, California

Ford Model E is responsible for developing the key technologies and capabilities – such as EV platforms, batteries, e-motors, inverters, charging and recycling – to create ground-up, breakthrough electric vehicles. The Battery System Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing battery systems for various applications. This role requires expertise in battery technology and electrical engineering to ensure the optimal performance of the battery system.

What you’ll be able to do:

  • Develop battery system architectures for various applications

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement battery systems

  • Conduct feasibility studies and evaluate battery technologies

  • Create specifications and requirements for battery systems

  • Design battery pack layouts and configurations

  • Develop and maintain documentation for battery system design and testing

  • Drive optimization in the battery system for cost, quality and manufacturing

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest battery technology trends and advancement

Minimum requirements:

  • BS in Engineering or equivalent with minimum 5 years of relevant experience

  • 5+ years of experience in battery system design and development

  • In-depth knowledge of battery technology, chemistry, and materials

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

  • Strong project management skills

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Engineering

  • Hands-on experience building and launching automotive products

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience using Confluence, Jira, Asana, or other project management tools

  • An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team

  • A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement
