Cella Inc Freelance Footwear Designer in Irvine, California
Location: Irvine, CaliforniaJob Type: ContractCompensation Range: $50 - 58 per hour
Cella is seeking a skilled and innovative Freelance Footwear Designer to spearhead the creation of exciting new footwear styles specifically designed for an outdoor adventures company. This dynamic opportunity kicks off with an intensive four-week design sprint where you'll generate initial design concepts and directions. This role offers a flexible blend of remote work with key in-person collaboration sprints! Responsibilities:
Design three original footwear styles that seamlessly align with the company's brand aesthetic and strategic goals for the outdoor adventure market.
Conduct a focused three-week design sprint to deliver compelling concept sketches, detailed material specifications, and comprehensive initial tech packs.
Collaborate closely with the merchandising, design, product development, and sourcing teams to ensure the feasibility of designs and their alignment with our brand vision, product language, branding, and functional innovations.
Drive innovation and technology into commercially viable product designs.
Execute complete, production-ready designs, including detailed drawings, technical drawings, and specifications.
Ensure that the final product meets the brands high standards for quality.
Keep the internal team consistently updated on project status throughout the development process.
Proficiently manage and track project timelines.
Maintain an understanding of broader design trends across multiple footwear categories and uses.
Qualifications:
College degree in Industrial Design or Footwear from an accredited University (preferred).
Minimum of 7 years of experience in product design.
Strong design and drawing skills.
Excellent working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
Excellent SolidWorks skills in creating parts and drawings.
Strong team-oriented individual with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with evolving priorities.
Potential for domestic and international travel.
3-5+ years of proven experience in footwear design, ideally within performance, tactical, outdoor, or related categories relevant to the company's new product line goals.
Demonstrated strong conceptual and technical design abilities, with a keen eye for detail and functionality.
Exceptional ability to work independently, manage project timelines effectively, and deliver high-quality results.
A craft-oriented individual with a solid Industrial Design or Footwear Design background and experience in creative product design and documentation within Adobe Creative Suite.
Ability to extend the 5.11 Adventure Design Ethos into Footwear.
Patience and a detailed mindset necessary to design effectively within all requirements in a team environment.
Participate in two important in-office review sessions:
A 3-day session approximately three months following the design sprint to evaluate the first round of prototypes.
A subsequent 3-day session one month later to review the second-round prototypes and finalize any necessary revisions.
