Southwest Division
Shimmick’s Southwest Division, headquartered in Irvine, California, focuses on large public owners in Southern California, across water resources, water treatment, transportation and transit markets. Over the past decade, the division has grown tremendously, securing major projects, including the $350 million North City Pure Water Facility (https://www.shimmick.com/portfolio/north-city-pure-water-facility/) in San Diego at the $200 million Groundwater Replenishment System (https://www.shimmick.com/portfolio/groundwater-replenishment-system-expansion/) in Orange County.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Develops proficiency in the use of the Company estimating systems and processes.
Recognizes, understands and applies estimating terminology, measures, concepts and principles for compiling all types of estimates.
Recognizes how various processes/project actions and assumptions may impact the estimate and quantifies the impact.
Assists in analyzing and using estimates to predict key project issues.
Prepares and/or coordinates preparation of full project estimates. Provides complete conceptual and final estimating input.
Understands construction means, methods, and sequences-singe discipline.
Responsible for performing all aspects of estimating.
Assists in the preparation of the Estimate Plan.
Conducts work requiring independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard estimating techniques, procedures, and criteria.
May provide guidance to less experienced estimating personnel.
Develops wage rate build-ups.
Reads and interprets drawings, specifications, Requests-for-Proposals and contracts.
Develops detailed material take-offs for procurement of bulk materials.
Applies the various elements of Shimmick's cost structure (overheads, G&A, insurance, etc.)
Develops cash flow schedules and estimates.
Knowledgeable of the CAES estimating system.
Prepares scope and bid package breakdowns for subcontract and vendor quotes.
Prepares subcontract bid analysis for scope, cost, and price.
Understands Earned Value Management (EVMS) theory and application.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field + 12 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in Concrete structures, MSE Walls, Rail, Transit, Wastewater
Experience on water resources and water treatment plants
Works toward alignment of customer and company objectives.
Participates with management in development of strategies and plans.
Understands estimating terminology and measures and recognizes processes/project actions that may impact the project.
Participates in the analysis and utilization of estimates to predict key project issues.
Participates in the evaluation of business opportunities and potential profitability.
Assists the Project Manager in presenting, trouble-shooting and improving estimates.
Understands construction means, methods, and sequences.
Familiar with financial analysis (NPV, ROIC, ROCE).
Assists in preparing budgets and performance plans.
Oversees the preparation of crew build-ups and production rate determinations.
Determines construction equipment selection.
Manages the preparation of an estimate.
Leads Project Team estimate reviews.
Evaluates suitability of scope and execution plan for basis of estimate.
Reviews and approves Estimate Plans (approach, techniques, level of effort, cost, schedule), Basis of Estimates and qualifications.
Reviews and approves bid tabulations responding to the customer/Request for Proposal requirements.
Collects, analyzes and archives project data. Develops historical documentation.
Reconciles current project estimate comparisons with previous performance and market benchmark data.
Negotiates internal issues, priorities, and deadlines.
Prepares and negotiates change orders.
Performs contingency and risk analysis.
Delivers estimate presentations to the Executive Review Committee.
Additional Information:

The salary range for this position is between $180,000 - $250,000 depending on experience and/or education.
