JOB SUMMARY
The Pharmacy Tech picks medications according to labels or fill lists for the pharmacist to check and delivers them to the appropriate units, returns unused medications to the pharmacy for charge adjustments, exchanges and restocks contingency supplies, repackages bulk supplies into bar-coded unit doses, maintains the orderliness of the pharmacy and all other areas of the hospital where drugs are stored, and sorts, files, and maintains pharmacy records.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Must have a high school diploma.
Preferred/Optional: Completion of Pharmacy Technician Training Program.
EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Minimum Required: Good communication skills are needed so as to follow verbal and written instruction and provide verbal and written information to each other and the pharmacists. Ability to work with sustained attention and care on routine repetitive task with accuracy and efficiency. Basic knowledge about contemporary hospital pharmacy services. General knowledge of 340B program .
Pharmacy Technician I: Minimum Required: None. Preferred/Optional: Six months of experience in pharmacy, healthcare, or customer service.
Pharmacy Technician II : Minimum Required: One year experience in pharmacy (or equivalent i.e. Medical Assistant, CNA, Laboratory Technician) OR completion of a Pharmacy Technician Training Program
Pharmacy Technician III: Minimum Required: Three years experience in pharmacy (or equivalent i.e. Medical Assistant, CNA, Laboratory Technician) OR Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Training Program AND two year’s experience in pharmacy (or equivalent i.e. Medical Assistant, CNA, Laboratory Technician)
Pharmacy Technician Senior: Minimum Required: Five years experience in pharmacy (or equivalent i.e. Medical Assistant, CNA, Laboratory Technician) OR Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Training Program AND four years experience in pharmacy (or equivalent i.e. Medical Assistant, CNA, Laboratory Technician)
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required: Must have and maintain Pharmacy Technician Licensure with the applicable state. (See additional job description for training Pharmacy Tech position)
Pharmacy Technician I: Minimum Required: Pharmacy Technician licensure with the applicable state by the first date of employment. Must remain in good standing and current. Preferred/Optional: Certification as a Pharmacy Technician via PTCB or equivalent.
Pharmacy Technician II: Minimum Required: Pharmacy Technician licensure with the applicable state by the first date of employment. Must remain in good standing and current. Preferred/Optional: advanced pharmacy technician certification (CPhT-Adv or CSPT).
Pharmacy Technician III & Senior: Minimum Required: Pharmacy Technician licensure with the applicable state by the first date of employment. Must remain in good standing and current. And one of the following:
Pharmacy Technician Certification via PTCB or NHA
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification awarded by the American Association or Medical Assistants (AAMA)
Registered Medical Assistant registration from the American Medical Technologist (AMT)
Registered Medical Assistant registry from the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
Current State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or Nurse Compact License
Preferred/Optional: Advanced pharmacy technician certification (CPhT-Adv or CSPT).
Start/End Times: 7am-5pm, 8am-4pm, or as assigned.
Leng of Shifts: 8 and 10 hours

Training position for a Pharmacy Tech

Apply for temporary Pharmacy Technician License ($15.00)
Once the State of Michigan reviews application, you will be mailed Application Confirmation letter containing instruction to complete a criminal background check
Temporary License in good for 1 year and is not renewable. During this year, it will be the responsibility of employee to get Certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) at www.ptcb.org .

Once Certification is complete, will need to apply for Pharmacy Technician License- By exam $135.00
Relicensure every 2 years:
Fee $155.00 for State of Michigan License
Continuing education (CE) - 20 hours required by the State of Michigan during a 2 year period
A minimum of 1 hour of continuing education earned in the area of pain and symptom management relating to the practice of pharmacy that includes, but is not limited to, courses in the following subjects: Behavior management; Psychology of pain; Pharmacology; Behavior modification; Stress management; and Clinical applications as they relate to professional practice.
A minimum of 1 hour of continuing education earned in the area of patient safety.
A minimum of 1 hour of continuing education earned in the area of pharmacy ethics and jurisprudence.
At least 5 of the CE credits must be earned by attending live courses, programs, or activities that provide for direct interaction with instructors, peers, and participants.
No more than 12 hours of CE credit may be earned during a 24-hour period.
