Position Summary:

Lilly’s Early Molecule Discovery team is responsible for small molecule hit to lead prosecution using traditional, and where warranted, novel mechanisms and technologies on early pre-portfolio targets. We seek an experienced drug hunting leader with expertise in biophysics and mass spectrometry to lead a cross-functional team in characterizing protein/ligand, protein/protein, and protein/partner interactions. This will be accomplished through state-of-the-art biophysical tools to guide the selection of chemical matter best suited for the target product profile. The role also includes leading a thoughtful, and comprehensive, MS-based cell and enzyme characterization to evaluate protein proximity, dynamics, and interactomics.

The position requires an individual who can lead coordinated efforts application of these techniques across multiple programs and modalities simultaneously. Maintaining an extensive understanding of current state-of-the-art technologies and building novel capabilities within the group to deliver meaningful data for our project teams is essential. Collaboration is critical in this role; thus, the candidate must work closely with teams.

Responsibilities:

· Lead both internal and external teams toward identification, elaboration, and characterization of early lead molecules across multiple projects and mechanisms

· Direct the deployment of biophysics resources to rapidly interrogate hit chemical matter for kinetics, protein binding effects, proximity induction, or other common biophysics bases analysis.

· Deploy HDX MS teams to navigate novel binding locations and effects on protein dynamics and/or protein/protein interactions.

· Actively engage in defining overall functional area strategy and priorities to meet timeline expectations.

· Catalyze new hit and lead characterization with state-of-the-art cell and enzyme based MS chemical biology characterization.

· Collaboratively evaluate and develop MS and Biophysics based screening capabilities when needed.

· Proactively identify and pursue novel techniques and technologies to improve the identification/optimization of ligands across multiple inhibition mechanisms.

· Continually ensure team has quality state of the art tools and equipment to enable workflows.

· Actively engage in defining Early Molecule Discovery strategy and priorities.

· Ensure the timely delivery of robust, rigorous, data to project teams which enables rapid chemical series evaluation

· To be adept at communicating team expectations and setting team and help to craft larger organizational goals.

Basic Requirements:

· PhD with minimum of 15+ years academic/research/industry exp (may include post-doc experience) OR MS with 15+ years industry/academic/research exp BS with 25+ years industry/academic/research experience.

This position can be based at Indianapolis, IN, Louisville, CO, or San Diego, CA site.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$171,000 - $332,200

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
