Cleveland Clinic Coding Education Instructor in Cleveland, Ohio

As an Outpatient Coding Education Instructor, you will research, develop, and deliver hospital outpatient clinical coding training for topics such as: disease and trauma pathophysiology, surgical/operative techniques, ICD-10-CM coding conventions/guidelines, ICD-10-PCS coding convention/guidelines, CPT/HCPCS coding conventions/guidelines, modifiers, and Medicare prospective payment system regulatory updates. This role provides support to coding caregivers and gives them the opportunity to learn and grow in their position.

The ideal future caregiver is someone who:

  • Has a background in technical outpatient coding.

  • Has knowledge of adult learning methodologies.

  • Has experience with presenting and educating on coding topics.

  • Is open to continuous education and learning new technology to deliver educational coding topics.

Job Responsibilities:

Assesses the educational needs of coding staff, management, and physicians and develops presentations or researches educational resources to meet those needs.

Assists with the certification program for coding staff; makes recommendations for credentialing and certification.

Communicates coding changes to coding staff.

Conducts coding reviews and training programs to assure coding quality.

Develops all training materials and coding aids for both formal training and use by coders in daily work.

Develops coding curriculum and corresponding training Course manual.

Ensures billed service is being accurately coded.

Holds regular meetings to communicate new coding-related findings.

Identifies elements of a medical record's structure and content and code abstracting.

Leads training sessions on current coding information in the medical field.

Maintains knowledge of ICD10 and CPT classifications and coding of diagnoses and procedures.

Organizes and participates in coding and reimbursement meetings.

Participates in the hiring process and educational planning for coding staff.

Performs analysis of benchmarking profiles.

Performs quality assurance reviews to assess comprehension of training efforts.

Provides continual coding and payer updates.

Provides consultation, leadership, and expertise to internal management in the planning, implementation, and delivery of coding education

Researches updated coding information.

Reviews and responds to coding questions.

Researches coding issues that arise.

Serves as a technical resource for all involved personnel; ensures that information is accurate and current, meeting professional.

Other duties as assigned.

Education:

Associate's Degree in Health Information Technology or Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management.

Certifications:

Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) required.

Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.

Complexity of Work:

Advanced level ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT coding training.

Work Experience:

Minimum of 10 years of hospital inpatient or hospital outpatient coding experience required.

Physical Requirements:

Extensive sitting and viewing of computer monitor

Frequent typing

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $33.46

Maximum hourly: $51.03
