The Job

This role is for a Sr. Manager of Infrastructure Engineering, part of the Global Infrastructure Core Technologies (GICT) Team. This role is a strategic leader for our infrastructure team as it pertains to compute and storage on behalf of all WBD brands. This includes new & existing infrastructure deployments, migrations, support, and maintenance. This individual will be exposed to a variety of Linux, Windows, VMWare virtualization and storage technologies running both on-premises and in the cloud. You will manage the daily operations in the department responsible for the planning, implementation, integration, and support of the organization’s systems infrastructure. You will ensure that hardware and software are implemented utilizing best practices and in a manner that meets the needs of the organization.

The Global Infrastructure Core Technologies team is building technology and systems that meet world class standards for which Warner Bros. Discovery is known. We provide 24X7 engineering and tier 3 support for various stakeholders globally. You will be responsible for building and maintaining a world class team based out of Hyderabad, India which will be responsible for managing all aspects of infrastructure engineering. You will provide leadership, coaching, guidance, training, and support to provide an optimal position for success.

This position requires a background in leading and/or managing compute and storage focused teams. Proficiency in Ansible or Chef for Automation is a plus, as well as Jenkins. The Sr. Manager is responsible for developing and sustaining an efficient and effective infrastructure team, overseeing highly available infrastructure in data centers and colocations around the world.

The Daily – Major Activities

Operational Responsibilities

  • Manages physical, virtual, and cloud-based compute and storage infrastructure for extending to colocations and data centers & various disaster recovery as needed.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements and objectives.

  • Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members.

  • Perform data analysis to identify areas for improvement and optimization.

  • Provide hands-on management of our systems, while participating in and managing on-call rotation. You will lead all troubleshooting efforts for outages and impairments within our technical footprint.

  • Leads the selection and implementation of configuration management tools, deployment automation, and orchestration tools.

  • Devises the strategy and implementation approach to system monitoring and log management.

  • Work to develop a comprehensive backup and disaster recovery plans.

  • Manage stakeholder communications and escalations during projects and production incidents.

  • Lead, train, and mentor the infrastructure team, setting goals and managing to KPIs

  • Maintain the operational stability of the physical and virtual infrastructure by providing primary support for all dependent organizations; possesses commitment toward break/fix

  • Prioritize, drive, and validate strategies and roadmaps for platforms, and technologies.

Project Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with all business and technical stakeholders & Project Management team providing advice and assistance to coordinate and operationalize the integrated strategic and operational plans for innovative technologies, methodologies, and processes.

  • Participate in developing Strategic Roadmap for the advancement of Next Generation Infrastructure technologies, and processes for ongoing projects & improvements.

  • Act as a mentor for other team members when troubleshooting infrastructure, middleware, and related applications.

  • Lead group-brainstorming sessions with infrastructure teams.

  • Build and develop a world class infrastructure team in Hyderabad, India

Communication

  • Keep Infrastructure Engineering teams and other teams updated on changes to architecture and infrastructure standards and tooling.

  • Keep operations and project teams well informed of changes regarding status of assigned tasks.

  • Create and deliver presentations to stakeholders, engineering teams, and to senior leadership as needed.

  • Communicate with business stakeholders regarding maintenance, incidents, and projects.

  • Attend online meetings with teams in the U.S. as needed.

The Essentials

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 12-15 years of experience working in technology, with increasing levels of responsibility.

  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated management or leadership experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience) is required.

  • Demonstrated experience establishing automation-first teams and systems.

  • 5+ years of professional experience with Systems, Storage, and Virtualization technologies.

  • Strong knowledge of automation methodologies, scripting languages, and tooling.

  • Solid familiarity with systems engineering, operating systems, storage concepts, virtualization technologies, and security.

  • Minimum 3 years working experience in public cloud environments, particularly Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure.

Knowledge/Skills & Competencies

  • Strong skillset in leading compute and storage focused engineering teams

  • Self-learner, independent, with outstanding problem-solving skills.

  • Understanding of AWS or Azure cloud methodologies

  • Superior organizational skills with a high degree of flexibility, attention to detail, and ability to adapt to changing priorities, timelines, and deadlines.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage time and prioritize effectively.

  • Possess mastery level understanding of various server hardware, operating systems, and backend storage technologies; including converged systems, backup/recovery software, and monitoring toolsets to name a few.

  • Familiarity of Windows Server 2016/2019/2022, RHEL8/9, VMWare ESXi, vCenter, Aria Automation is preferred.

  • Familiarity of block and file-based storage technologies such as Hitachi, NetApp, Pure storage, and fibre-channel switching technologies is preferred.

  • Ability to provide continued training, development, leadership and support to engineers for designing and deploying modern solutions.
