Northrop Grumman’s Defense Systems sector is seeking a Sr. Staff Chief Engineer for Command and Launch (C&L). This position will be located in Roy, Utah and will support the SDS Division . This role may also be located in; Huntsville, AL, Bellevue, NE, Colorado Springs, CO, or Manhattan Beach, CA.

What You ’ ll Get To Do:
Lead technical excellence as part of Chief Engineering Staff assigned to the Command & Launch (C&L) Segment, responsible for developing and controlling the technical baseline through change board control. Coordinates between Supplier Management Teams (SMTs), Systems Engineering and product design teams to facilitate system requirements development, modeling and analysis, hardware/software design, verification, validation, and integration activities across elements contributing to design and delivery
Execute Systems Engineering processes and approaches leveraging modern Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) processes & tools towards Milestone B recertification. Support Sentinel Restructure strategy, including technical development, advisement, and trade study resolution as required
Ensures that the program is adhering to sound engineering processes in the development, production, test and sustainment of products for our customers and is compliance with company policies, procedures, and quality standards
Maintains cognizance over technical activities within the C&L Segment and ensures horizontal integration of the best engineering practices across the company
Continually coordinates with the program’s systems engineering and program integration teams’ leadership to ensure the execution of program statement of work
Extensive customer, and external stakeholder interfacing and some travel will be required
Work collaboratively and with influence to gain commitment and performance from all organizations including suppliers, the C&L Segment and Program customers, Business Operations and Contracts, System Design, Integration and Test as needed to drive required business outcomes
Serves in an authoritative capacity, acting as a delegate of the Chief Engineer in hosting Engineering Review Boards (ERBs) and a board member on the C&L Engineering Review Board (CLERB)
Partner with the Air Force customer and the EMD execution team to ensure Weapon System requirements are met through the analysis of the Critical Designs of the Command & Launch segment and ultimately the verification of all Weapon System requirements
Formulate system-level, subsystem, and component or other lower-level risk reduction and design maturation activities as part of Technology Maturation and Risk Reduction objectives
Support hardware and deliverable focused deep dives within Integrated Product Teams (IPTs)
Additional responsibilities may include:
Partner with the Sentinel Weapon System Architect to ensure overall Weapon System design integrity satisfies USG Weapon System requirements
Take leadership role in providing insight and knowledge transfer to others on internal and external technical solutions to solve complex problems
Provide technical leadership, direction, and mentoring to the wider engineering team in the application of scientific principles, tools, and techniques to achieve practical end results
Improve program-wide Systems Engineering processes to reduce EMD execution cost and schedule risk while maintaining high technical rigor
You ’ ll Bring These Qualifications:
14 years of relevant experience with a Bachelors Degree in a STEM related field of study; 12 years with a Masters in STEM; 10 years with a PhD in STEM
US Citizenship with an Active DoD Top-Secret Clearance or higher (awarded within the past 6 years) with the ability to receive a Special Access Program (SAP) certification
10+ years of experience leading a technical team to successful product development and delivery
Five years’ experience providing technical leadership, direction, and mentoring of other technical teammates in the application of scientific principles, tools, and techniques to achieve practical end results
Served as an authority on scientific principles and broad technical areas for three years
Technical breadth in the Requirements Allocation, Configuration Management, Cyber and Network architectures, Subsystems Design and a broad knowledge of end-to-end program lifecycle
Must possess excellent leadership, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
Strong partnership/collaboration skills. Demonstrated ability to partner cross-IPT/cross-discipline within a team
Strong program technical leadership skills
Strong program execution skills; Demonstrated ability to meet program technical, cost, and schedule milestones
Ability to integrate, engage, and lead team to perform at top level of performance
Ability to leverage experience/background to bring alternative ideas/solutions to the team
Be able and willing to travel up to 20% as a part of the role
These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
Master’s Degree in STEM
ICBM or complex aerospace systems development experience
Expert knowledge of NC3 system integration, NC2 requirements and design, RF and terrestrial network bandwidth analysis and design, subsystem integration and element/segment integration and Testing
5+ years of experience with architecture, requirements, or design engineering in development leadership for ground-based missile systems (ICBM experience preferred)
Experience with nuclear command and control ground and launch systems
Experience with Cyber architecture and design (RMF, defensive and offensive cyber operations)

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Salary Range: $162,500.00 - $243,700.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
