A Senior Distribution Engineer / Distribution Engineering Manager is needed for a utility in the Southern Washington DC metro area (near Waldorf MD). The Senior Distribution Engineer / Distribution Engineering Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing the coordination of electric service designs, providing project management support, and offering expert recommendations to ensure the safe and efficient operation of electric system. This position requires a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited college or university, coupled with a minimum of ten years of progressive experience in engineering, construction, or operations within an electric utility or equivalent firm, along with a practical understanding of the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and electric utility system planning.

Qualified candidates should possess a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited college or university, along with a minimum of ten years of progressive experience in engineering, construction, or operations within an electric utility or equivalent firm. Additionally, a practical understanding of the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and electric utility system planning is essential. This is a direct-hire role, and relocation is available for qualified candidates.

responsibilities:

  • Utilize software models to simulate system performance and validate capital improvement projects

  • Identify and recommend corrective actions for potential electric system deficiencies to maintain power quality and reliability

  • Coordinate approved engineering practices for electric service design layouts, ensuring compliance with customer-member deliverable dates

  • Prepare and verify protection settings for the electric distribution system to minimize customer outages and enhance reliability

  • Evaluate and implement engineering and construction practices, enforce standards, and interact with stakeholders regarding construction materials and practices

  • Investigate and address power quality disturbances and customer complaints, implementing corrective actions as necessary
