Citigroup Originator (Corporate Salesperson - C15), Director, NAM Natural Gas (Commodities) - Hybrid in Houston, Texas

This position is responsible for the negotiation and execution of complex structured Natural Gas transactions, with a focus on customers located in North America. Individuals in this role work closely with other commercial team members, structuring and potential clients to better understand the client needs and help develop product structures that meet those needs. Individuals in this role are also responsible for developing the different deal structures, while working with all the relevant desks to appropriately develop other aspects of the transaction. This individual will work within a team environment and oversee, guide, and negotiate the agreements to be executed between CEI and the counterparty and are also responsible for selling the deal internally to CEI support partners (Credit, Legal, etc.). Recognized subject matter expert. Strong commercial awareness is a necessity. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Provides advanced judgment and conducts in-depth quantitative or qualitative analysis to solve problems and develop new, innovative solutions. Required to think beyond existing solutions, assumptions or current knowledge of sophisticated areas. Significant impact on a function and/or the business through making decisions that determine technical approaches and strategies for the area.

Responsibilities:

  • Build rapport and trusted relationships across the energy industry to help drive strategic client and sales initiatives

  • Help to develop the client strategy and assist in driving the implementation of the strategy, working in close partnership with sales, trading and product management teams

  • Communicates directly with potential customers to gain an understanding of customer needs in order to propose solutions, and/or negotiate deal structures that meet those needs

  • Continually help to meet evolving clients' needs and drive greater coordination between businesses

  • Originate and execute meaningful and landmark transactions

  • Lead business product to achieve the strategic growth and market share we are aiming for

  • Partner closely with other key businesses and functions to ensure proper product deployment based on understanding of client

  • Regularly review, monitor and identify opportunities for evaluation of new and target markets/clients, evolution of client coverage models and performance metrics

  • Take a lead role in fostering an environment of collaboration through interfacing with appropriate internal partners to enhance share of mind with clients, increase dialogue and to deliver on expertise

  • Understand and analyze clients’ businesses and exposures to provide best suited sales solutions in full coordination with all relevant business partners

  • Work in close partnership with control functions such as Legal, Compliance, Market and Credit Risk, Audit, Finance in order to ensure appropriate governance and control infrastructure

  • Build a culture of responsible finance, good governance and supervision, expense discipline and ethics

  • Appropriately assess risk/reward of transactions when making business decisions; demonstrating proper consideration for the firm’s reputation.

  • Be familiar with and adhere to Citi’s Code of Conduct and the Plan of Supervision for Global Markets and Securities Services

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience

  • Previous experience in client-facing roles with proven track record on growing and maintaining relationships through value added service and commercial skills

  • An entrepreneurial approach for business origination and developing new relationships

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills

  • Excellent communication skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred.
