KINDER MORGAN INC Measurement Lab Analyst - 29567 in HOUSTON, Texas

Position Description

*Primary Purpose: * This position will be responsible for running gas analysis on several lab chromatographs from cylinders sent in from field technicians. Testing of field metrology equipment utilizing a variety of lab standards, and additional activities within the Kinder Morgan Measurement Lab-KMML. The individual must possess the ability to associate with a wide variety of people (personalities, skill and education levels, etc.) with tact, courtesy and professionalism.

Daily activities include:

  • Gas analysis through the use of gas chromatographs and gas quality analyzers.
  • Testing, certification, and calibration of measurement test equipment.
  • Review 3 rd party gas analysis, comparing to historical trends for acceptance into the measurement system.
  • Other responsibilities include evaluation of new gas measurement / monitoring technology.
  • Enhancing / developing laboratory procedures.
  • Travel estimated from 0 to 10% of the time to field sites and offices with occasional overnight stays.
  • Effectively prioritize workload between multiple projects
  • Ability to take on new projects and shift priorities on short notice
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to company and its insurer
  • Employee needs to possess the ability to lift and or move objects weighing 50 lbs.
  • Employee should possess good mechanical and electronic skills.

Position Requirements

*Education: *

  • Associate's degree in a related technical subject such as IandE or related military technical training - candidates with extensive experience (5 years) and knowledge of the Measurement discipline may be considered without an Associate's degree.

  • Possess logical, problem-solving, analytical skills.
  • Be able to maintain objectivity and make recommendations based on results.
  • Possess the ability to analyze problems from multiple perspectives and make sound recommendations.
  • Be detail oriented and have good record-keeping skills.
  • Be skilled in the use of software such Microsoft Office.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong focus on safe work practices.
  • Able to complete work assignments with little supervision in an acceptable time frame.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisors, keep required work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Intermediate computer skills.

Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge (above the minimum requirements; not required, but advantageous in this position):

  • Operating a chromatograph and reviewing gas analysis data.
  • Knowledge of metrology and natural gas industry experience is preferred. Knowledge of industry's regulatory compliance requirements and standards.
  • Advanced computer skills

Physical demands:

  • Ability to physically move or lift objects weighing 50 lbs.

*Working conditions: *

  • Lab based position
  • May be required to work outside of normal business hours on limited notice
  • Ability to meet fixed and tight timelines for multiple projects.
  • Periodic travel to field sites and other offices with occasional overnight (0-10%)
  • This position also has the opportunity to work a flexible work schedule with 9-hour workdays Monday through Thursday and either half day Fridays or every other Friday off.
  • The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.

Position level, job title, and pay will be determined by candidates' level of experience and skill.
