Position Description

Position Responsibilities

Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining applications and databases generally focused on Kinder Morgan’s Integrity Management Program (IMP) including but not limited to support of risk analysis, integrity assessment planning and working with other groups on Kinder Morgan pipelines and facilities

The primary responsibilities of this role are as follows:

  • Design and implement new integrity system solutions to support business decisions

  • Analyze integrity systems to align solutions with business programs

  • Provide support in analyzing systems, and design cost effective solutions that meet customer requirements

  • Develop business specifications

  • Ensure unit test is completed and meets the test plan requirements, system testing is completed, and system is implemented correctly

  • Provide user support and receive user acceptance for new system developments

  • Create and maintain thorough documentation of system architecture and processes

  • Develop and maintain risk model

  • Ensure quality risk results and completeness

  • Identify and present potential pipeline integrity process improvements and follow-through with implementation once stakeholder/management agreement for the improvement is obtained

  • Provide support for other aspects of integrity related programs, processes, and procedures as required

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree. Equivalent work experience may be considered.

Job Requirements include the ability and willingness to perform the following:

  • 3-5 years’ experience designing and implementing system solutions to support business needs

  • Expert knowledge of SQL (including SQL tuning), T-SQL and Javascript

  • Experience working in multiple environments (DEV/QA/PROD)

  • Experience using version control tools

  • Develop and maintain an effective, productive, accountable, and motivated team unified in their focus to achieve the mission, goals, and objectives of the group and the company.

  • Develop near-term goals and long-term strategic objectives aimed at improving the Risk systems to assure regulatory compliance, improve program effectiveness and efficiency, and contribute to the success of the integrity management program and group mission.

  • Prioritize task, goals, and objectives commensurate with their relative importance, discern changes in circumstances that would warrant re-prioritization and adapt accordingly with timely resource adjustments.

  • Assure quality, accurate, and timely completion of all individual and group deliverables including timely completion of all requirements in related standards, procedures, policies goals, objectives, and internal and external customer requests.

  • Establish and communicate clear roles and responsibilities, develop “SMART” goals, identify milestones, monitor and track progress and performance and provide clear, accurate, timely, and relevant feedback to employees throughout the year including during the annual performance review process.

  • Establish, monitor, and regularly communicate key performance metrics to all stakeholders reflecting overall group performance including effectiveness and efficiency related to implementation of all established standards, processes, procedures, goals, objectives, and the group mission.

  • Provide clear, concise, timely, and effective written and verbal communication to all internal and external customers with the discernment to consider the respective roles, knowledge, and interests of each party.

  • Work well in a team environment including interaction and collaboration with management, peers, and subordinates in an open and positive setting that demonstrates receptiveness to ideas and appropriate flexibility.

  • Receive direction and constructive feedback related to personal and group performance and respond positively by taking ownership and implementing tangible positive changes consistent with the feedback provided.

  • Develop, justify, and submit an annual budget prioritized in accordance with the goals and objectives of the pipeline integrity group and manage in accordance with company requirements including monthly forecasts, monthly and year-end variance reports.

  • Understand and consistently implement all company technical and administrative policies, processes, procedures, guidelines, and best practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn technical aspects of pipeline related work activities and the ability to learn technical aspects and oversight of Risk and the overall pipeline integrity process.

  • Develop and maintain written standards, procedures, processes, and work instructions for all group activities.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with logical thought processes including the ability to develop technically sound, practical, and cost effective solutions that consider implications from multiple perspectives of various stakeholders.

  • Review and analyze the details of routine tasks as needed.

  • Provide support as needed to help the Pipeline Integrity Group and the company reach its mission and objectives.

  • Ability to perform all essential functions of the position including those listed above.

  • Strong focus on safe work practices and active participation in the safety program.

  • Initiative and adaptability to manage multiple work tasks.

  • Strong computer skills including but not limited to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and high level of performance.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license and driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.

Work Conditions

  • Must be willing and able to work in a corporate environment.

  • Occasional travel to other field or corporate locations may be required depending on nature of ongoing work activities.

  • Must be willing and able to carry a cell phone and respond as needed.

  • Extended periods of sitting may be required for administrative duties.

  • This position has the potential opportunity to work a hybrid work schedule with Monday through Wednesday in the office and Thursday and Friday at home. This position also has the potential opportunity to work a flexible work schedule with 9-hour workdays Monday through Thursday and either half day Fridays or every other Friday off with management approval.

Preferred Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrated ability to perform the job requirements listed above.

  • 10+ years’ experience designing and implementing system solutions to support business needs

  • A minimum of five (5) years direct work experience in Risk Engineering, Pipeline Integrity, or DOT Compliance.

  • 3 to 5 years of management experience.

  • Familiarity with pipeline linear referencing concepts

  • Experience with ETL and data warehousing of spatial data sets

  • Experience with Safe Software’s FME Desktop and FME Server

  • Prior experience building and delivering BI solutions

  • Master’s Degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering or other relevant field

Job level and pay commensurate with experience and skill set. The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
