Houston Methodist Consultant- Clinical Operations (Medical Center) in Houston, Texas

Ideal Candidate:

Experience working in an Ambulatory environment; ranging from business strategy, clinical operations, IT projects, EHR optimization and process mapping.

At Houston Methodist, the Consultant plans, directs, and coordinates projects & initiatives of enterprise scale and complexity to revenue cycle, hospital & clinic operations, and information technology and business strategy. These projects would be large- to medium-scale initiatives and will typically impact or improve multiple department and/or hospital operations at the system, regional or local level. Executes the project plans and activities following project management best practices and ensures specific goals, metrics and ROI targets are achieved. Proactively participates in the development, research and identification of key areas of opportunity within the System for improvement in process or cost savings.

PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Drive change management within their scope of work by effectively communicating project information to stakeholders, driving accountability to timelines and objectives and managing customer's expectations.

  • Lead, coach and motivate project team members including leadership and front line staff.

  • Validate work plan, duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority with management.

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Plan and organize all aspects of the project life cycle for small and medium sized projects including - definition of scope, objectives, compliance and governance.

  • Determine staffing requirements, and allotment of available department resources to various phases of the project including direction and coordinate activities of project personnel.

  • Shadow and round in assigned areas or projects to assist with information gathering related to people, process and priorities.

  • Prepare reports for management, client and others.

QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Establish and maintain a relationship with Internal Audit and Business Practices to ensure adherence to all State and Federal regulations and to gain input on risks and mitigation plans.

  • Maintain and adhere to the Internal Consulting team standards and departmental processes.

  • Oversees and develops methodology to ensure compliance to all regulations and policies directly connected to Internal Consulting initiatives.

FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Drive project performance to expected financial and process improvement outcomes including ROI and other project-based KPIs.

  • Assist leadership with identification of areas where optimization can have a positive financial impact related to the Houston Methodist system.

  • Helps team to meet ROI targets provided by the CFO.

GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Support Senior Strategy Consultant and Leadership with ongoing improvement initiatives by planning, implementing and monitoring compliance.

  • Support system standardization of key business and operational processes to improve operational, financial and patient outcomes.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelors degree in business, nursing or related field required

  • MHA, MBA, MSN or related degree preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Five years experience in implementing and supporting complex medium to enterprise scale projects, preferably in a healthcare environment. Three years experience with masters degree.

  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.

  • Candidate should possess extraordinary communication, organizational and leadership skills.

  • Must have the ability to interact professionally with all levels of personnel, patients, families, visitors and physicians and to coordinate with physicians and service providers to achieve superior results.

  • Extensive experience in grievance management, mediation and conflict negotiation, and crisis intervention.

  • Ability to solve complex patient relations issues independently

  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and mature judgment

  • Has knowledge of medical ethics and legal issues, including, Advance Directives, Ethics Committee, and the Patient Bills of Rights, as well as federal and state law and Joint Commission standards

  • Has the knowledge and ability to use various measurement tools, integrate data, and prepare meaningful reports

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of medical terminology

  • Basic to intermediate level of computer competency - Microsoft Office Suite, and knowledge of healthcare information systems
