MD Anderson Cancer Center Advanced Practice Provider (APRN / PA) - CNS - Radiation Oncology in Houston, Texas
The CNS Advanced Practice Provider (APRN/PA) will provide comprehensive care to adult patients with central nervous system (CNS) malignancies before, during, and after radiation therapy at the Texas Medical Center (Main Campus) . This full-time role (Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm) involves direct patient care, treatment planning, care coordination, and participation in clinical and quality assurance activities.
The Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate is a compassionate, team-oriented clinician with at least one year of experience as an inpatient APP or two years in an outpatient clinical setting. They demonstrate high emotional intelligence, adaptability, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Oncology experience is a plus but not required.
Responsibilities:
Clinical Care : Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with brain and spine tumors; handle radiation-related side effects; participate in emergency care as needed.
Treatment Planning & Implementation : Develop and monitor radiation treatment plans, order diagnostics/procedures, and manage interdisciplinary care.
Procedural Support : Participate in simulations, volume contouring, and special procedures like stereotactic body radiation therapy and brachytherapy.
Documentation & Compliance : Maintain detailed and timely medical records, prescriptions, and radiation prescriptions per institutional and state guidelines.
Education & Communication : Educate patients/families, act as a clinical resource, participate in professional development, and precept new APPs.
Qualifications - External
EDUCATION:
Required: Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), except for Physician Assistants who graduated from a PA program prior to 2013.
Required: Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: None.
Preferred: A minimum of one year of clinical experience as an APP in an inpatient setting or a minimum of two years clinical experience in an outpatient setting. Radiation or oncologic background preferred but not required.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

All of the following: PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants. Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.
MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas. Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in one of following department: Pediatrics - Patient Care (113100).
Required:
