Are you an experienced accounting professional looking to make an impact in the non-profit sector? We are seeking a meticulous and motivated Accounting Associate to join one of our non-profit clients in Downtown Houston. This contract-to-hire opportunity is perfect for someone skilled in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting who thrives in collaborative environments.

Key Responsibilities:

As an integral member of the Finance Team, you will:

  • Process and reconcile cash receipts, collaborating with the Development Team to ensure proper coding and accuracy.

  • Manage accounts payable, import bills, and process checks while ensuring proper documentation and compliance with funding guidelines.

  • Maintain vendor records, including W-9 collection and ACH documentation, and update accounts for sales tax exemption as needed.

  • Review, reconcile, and process employee expense reimbursements and credit card transactions using expense reporting software.

  • Oversee digital documentation tied to accounts payable, payroll, and cash receipts transactions.

  • Prepare financial reports and share insights with the Finance Manager and Director of Finance.

  • Assist in annual audits, particularly with providing documentation for the single audit process.

  • Support budgeting processes and cross-train to back up other accounting functions.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Finance Team's success.

    Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field OR 3 years of equivalent accounting/finance experience.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, accounting software, SharePoint, and Outlook.

  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas).

  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with a proven ability to interpret financial documents.

  • Experience working with GAAP standards and resolving discrepancies with high accuracy.

  • Excellent time management skills and demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines.

  • Discretion and reliability in handling confidential information, with a forward-thinking mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a high-volume accounts payable environment.

  • Familiarity with non-profit fund accounting and grant management (both government and private).

  • Knowledge of bill-pay applications like Bill.com or Concur.

  • Hands-on experience with accounting systems such as MIP, Sage Intaact, NetSuite, or SAP.
