Are you an experienced accounting professional looking to make an impact in the non-profit sector? We are seeking a meticulous and motivated Accounting Associate to join one of our non-profit clients in Downtown Houston. This contract-to-hire opportunity is perfect for someone skilled in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting who thrives in collaborative environments.
Key Responsibilities:
As an integral member of the Finance Team, you will:
Process and reconcile cash receipts, collaborating with the Development Team to ensure proper coding and accuracy.
Manage accounts payable, import bills, and process checks while ensuring proper documentation and compliance with funding guidelines.
Maintain vendor records, including W-9 collection and ACH documentation, and update accounts for sales tax exemption as needed.
Review, reconcile, and process employee expense reimbursements and credit card transactions using expense reporting software.
Oversee digital documentation tied to accounts payable, payroll, and cash receipts transactions.
Prepare financial reports and share insights with the Finance Manager and Director of Finance.
Assist in annual audits, particularly with providing documentation for the single audit process.
Support budgeting processes and cross-train to back up other accounting functions.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the Finance Team's success.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field OR 3 years of equivalent accounting/finance experience.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, accounting software, SharePoint, and Outlook.
Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas).
Strong analytical and communication skills, with a proven ability to interpret financial documents.
Experience working with GAAP standards and resolving discrepancies with high accuracy.
Excellent time management skills and demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines.
Discretion and reliability in handling confidential information, with a forward-thinking mindset.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a high-volume accounts payable environment.
Familiarity with non-profit fund accounting and grant management (both government and private).
Knowledge of bill-pay applications like Bill.com or Concur.
Hands-on experience with accounting systems such as MIP, Sage Intaact, NetSuite, or SAP.
