(3) Regular, Full-Time, Limited-Term (not to exceed twelve (12) months in duration), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Hawaii Center for AIDS (HICFA), located at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) Kakaako campus, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $3,183 - $4,429/Mon.

DUTIES: Assists broadly with the scope of clinical and laboratory research needs at Hawaii Center for Aids' (HICFA) under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI). Assists with HICFA Corona Virus Disease (COVID) testing and research initiatives. Activities include: assisting with recruiting, enrolling, consenting, interacting with research participants to schedule clinic visits or procedures, assisting with study visits and procedures, performing phlebotomy, and entering applicable data into databases. Activities may include transport and set up of equipment and supplies needed for research participant visits or as part of recruitment efforts; specimen transport from community performance sites to HICFA laboratory. Assists with the operation of HICFA's processing laboratory. Activities include: processing, banking, cataloging, shipping, and receiving specimens. Assists with procurement of required laboratory supplies. Assists in data analysis for quality assurance. Implements programs and protocols to maintain laboratory standards. Assists with laboratory assays and molecular biology assays (e.g., Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), DNA/RNA extraction, and agarose gel electrophoresis). Assists with study regulatory and logistical support (e.g., myGrants submissions and IRB submissions) for new clinical studies or new HICFA initiatives. Provides additional administrative support as needed.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, health or social science-related field.

EXPERIENCE

Up to one (0-1) year of experience working in a laboratory setting or working in a clinical environment interacting with research participants and assisting with clinical procedures.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of laboratory principles and the use of standard laboratory equipment or knowledge of clinical trials research. Working knowledge of local and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander/Asian communities in Hawai'i.

ABILITIES and SKILLS

Computer competency in PC systems and relevant computer programs, including Microsoft (MS) Office Suite. Ability to input data accurately. Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions in a clinical and laboratory environment. Fast learner and proficient in English. Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task. Willingness to be trained in phlebotomy. Ability to work well in a team environment. Excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working with all types of people. Must possess a valid driver's license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver's insurance equivalent to Hawaii's No-Fault Driver's Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check. Must complete Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Human Subject training within three (3) months from date f hire. Must complete training provided by the Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHSO) Hazardous Waste Generator Training. and International Air Transport Associate (IATA), the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) shipping requirements, and all other pertinent training related to the job within six (6) months from date of hire. Must complete the online Hazard Communication training immediately after hire or no later than employee's initial exposure to hazardous chemicals. Must be able to complete the Office of Research Compliance (ORC) Bloodborne Pathogen Standards and Sharps Hazard Prevention training within three (3) months from date of hire. Must be able to complete the UH Laboratory Safety training within six (6) months from date of hire. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.
