The VP of Project Controls I is responsible for leading and managing the Project Controls department, currently consisting of approximately 80 geographically dispersed project controllers across 5 Business Groups. This role requires a hands-on leader who can work in a fast-paced environment interfacing with operations leadership for this rapidly growing company.
Reporting to the CFO, this leadership role encompasses managing the Project Controls staff, overseeing process improvements, developing and testing requirements, creating and maintaining training materials, ensuring effective team communications, supporting acquisition due diligence and integration, and ensuring efficient, consistent, accurate, and compliant processes and reporting. Responsibilities
Staffing and Development:
Provides leadership for the Project Controls staff based upon sound management practices and in-depth knowledge gained through hands-on experience.
Fosters a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
Oversees hiring and ensures the staff contains individuals with the right skills and work ethic.
Conducts performance reviews of direct reports.
Team Communication and Meetings:
Develops and maintains effective communication channels within the team to ensure alignment and collaboration.
Manages Project Control team distribution lists for SharePoint and Costpoint workflows.
Regularly updates the team on key initiatives, changes, and organizational goals.
Project Controls Resources, Training and Documentation:
Maintains and updates the Project Controls intranet and SharePoint site.
Maintains New Hire Training Documentation.
Updates and manages the Project Controls Orientation Manual.
Creates and updates Project Controls policies.
Oversee the maintenance of Project Control templates (project setup form, accruals, revenue adjustments, EACs, etc.).
Process Improvement:
Facilitates and participates in all process improvement initiatives involving Project Controls.
Reporting and Financial Management:
Manages the Cognos Reporting Library, including report enhancements, new report requests and report testing.
Oversees quarterly Unbilled analysis.
Reviews and approves Costpoint and Cognos organizational access requests for all Project Control team members.
Acquisition Support:
Provides due diligence and integration support.
Ensures seamless integration of new acquisitions into existing processes and systems.
Special Projects and Compliance:
Interfaces with auditors to address inquiries related to Project Controls processes.
Schedules and documents Program Reviews, including tracking and managing action items.
Conducts Monthly Wage Override Compliance Reviews to ensure accurate employee pay.
Works closely with the payroll department to guarantee compliance and accuracy in payroll processes.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, or related field.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in Project Controls for Federal Government Contractors.
Proven leadership and team management skills.
Expert knowledge of Costpoint Project Setup, Reporting and Analysis.
Extensive expertise in revenue recognition principle.
Proficient knowledge of GAAP Accounting and Compliance.
Experience working with all Government Contract Types.
Experience working with Cognos.
Strong MS Excel skills.
Exceptional communicator who is emotionally intelligent and able to deal effectively with other members of the Leadership, Shared Services Teams and with all individuals at any level in the organization.
Must be comfortable presenting to large audiences.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
This Hybrid position requires that you live within commuting distance from Herndon, VA.
Desired Qualifications:
MBA and/or CPA preferred.
Earned Value experience a plus.
Experience working for Alaska Native Corporations a plus.
Physical Demands:
This position is based in Herndon, Virginia and requires in-person attendance at least three days per week.
This role requires infrequent travel.
