Sierra Nevada Corporation Proposal Writer III - Large Proposals (Hybrid & Remote Work Eligible) in Herndon, Virginia

This is a high-visibility position with direct impact on SNC growth. The Technical Writer will have great opportunities to work with SNC strategic and technology leaders to craft winning proposals for major US and international programs. The Tech Writer must work across SNC business units and functional organizations to understand a broad array of SNC products/services, making this a great opportunity to gain more breadth and demonstrate more adaptability. This is not primarily an editing role, though there are editing tasks - it is primarily a content creation role.

The Mission Solutions and Technologies (MST) business area provides affordable, turn-key command/control, communications, integrated ISR, force protection and security solutions worldwide. The MST team has a long legacy of supporting the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, commercial and international customers with years of experience in platform operations, engineering and full lifecycle management across domains – air, land, sea, space and cyber. This role is open to a hybrid work schedule out of the Herndon office.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with SNC subject matter experts to convert technical concepts and management strategies into compelling responses to requests for proposal, requests for information, sources sought announcements, and other similar events

  • Work with proposal authors, graphic artists, and proposal managers to craft compelling, compliant proposal content

  • Edit proposal content to achieve proposal objectives efficiently and with full compliance

  • Apply desktop publishing principles to maximize efficiency and visual appeal within SNC brand guidelines

  • Contribute to proposal process improvement including style guide refinement, lessons learned, and proposal information-gathering for future reuse

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field of study and typically 6 or more years of relevant experience

  • A higher level degree may substitute for experience

  • Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education

  • Experience with proposals over $10M , including some experience with proposals over $75M is required.

  • Advanced knowledge of technical writing principles, practices, and standards

  • Thorough understanding of desktop publishing tools, including publishing features of Microsoft Word

  • Progressive technical and proposal writing experience with emphasis on technical products and services related to Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) or other complex systems/services for US Government and international customers

  • Experience collecting information from subject matter experts and using it to create compelling proposal language & graphics

  • Experience developing and organizing complex technical proposal content to achieve strategic objectives.

  • Experience developing compelling win themes/discriminators, describing features/benefits, and defining key messages.

  • Expertise with MS Office tools and Adobe tools for content creation and desktop publishing for large, complex proposals

  • Experience with content management tools such as Expedience and Adobe Framemaker

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to motivate/work with others

  • Ability to work successfully in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment

Preferred:

  • Advanced knowledge of proposal writing principles, practices, and standards

  • Thorough understanding of desktop publishing tools, including publishing features of Microsoft Word Progressive experience in other elements of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Powerpoint) and Adobe publishing tools and editing, layout, and production of proposal documents which include graphics, tables, and other embedded content

  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary proposal teams

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Department of Defense Consolidated Adjudications Facility (DoD CAF), a federal government agency, handles the adjudicative aspects of the security clearance eligibility process for industry applicants. Adjudicative factors which affect the outcome of the eligibility determination include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the U.S., foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and illegal drug use.

Estimated Starting Salary: $72,059.06 - $99,081.20
