NORTHWESTERN ENERGY Land Surveyor in HELENA, Montana
Location in Butte is preferred (will also consider Billings, Bozeman, Great Falls, Helena or Missoula)
QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
- Associate Degree in land surveying or an equivalent program
- Ability to demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
- Valid Drivers License and satisfactory driving record
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Experience in surveying
- Knowledge of automated system functions and operations, GPS/GNSS applications, Trimble total stations, Trimble Business Center, OPUS, Montana State Plane coordinate system
- Excellent physical condition and have a safe work ethic
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Office programs
- Ability to quickly learn specialized computer applications
- Ability to walk for long periods and perform moderately strenuous physical labor, which includes lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds for long distances on uneven terrain
- Ability to travel, up to 20% of the year
- Ability to pass an employment physical, a drug test and a background check
- Montana PLS or LSI licensure preferred or the ability to obtain
- Drafting, engineering, right-of-way experience a plus
DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Manage the work required to collect and interpret field survey data as well as stake structures to support electric transmission line construction as it relates to line location, substation construction, engineering, permitting and reclamation activities
- Responsible for coordination, planning and performance of detailed surveys as required to support the needs of the company including: rights-of-way for electric transmission lines and distribution lines that cross State or Federal lands, river crossings, railroad crossings, as well as prepare documents for purchases of new land or additions of lands
- Develop efficient and cost effective work processes and standards
- Responsible for keeping up with current best survey practices
- Make recommendations for updating and replacing survey instruments
- May be required to record land corners in local Clerk and Recorders offices as needed
- Majority of job will be spent in the office managing the survey work for the department; there will be occasions where the surveyor will be in the field, subject to all field and weather hazards
- Implement innovative solutions to improve performance and efficiency of surveying activities
- Responsible for bidding, selecting and monitoring contract surveying
- Adhere to company safety standards and the Code of Business Conduct & Ethics
- Ensure all actions are consistent with NorthWestern Energy's values, mission, and strategic business objectives
Full-time position.
$26.74 - $46.73 per hour, depending on experience.
