Sommelier

SUMMARY

The Sommelier is responsible for assisting the Beverage Director in administering the sale of beverages in outlet, lounge and banquet functions, as well as teaching and mentoring bartenders, servers, and other associates involved in the sale of alcoholic beverages. This role will contribute to the organization as an active business partner that is responsible for supporting the company's goals, objectives, vision, mission, and values.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Job duties include; although are not limited to:

  • Working on the floor order taking, selling, servicing and ensuring proper all around service standards

  • Ensuring established inventory by ordering all liquor and supplies in accordance with business needs

  • Working with restaurant management to oversee beverage costs and pricing

  • Supervising staff on a daily basis in all beverage operations in the hotel

  • Assisting in training and development of staff, maintaining wine lists with other Sommeliers, and cocktail lists with Bartenders and Beverage Managers

  • Perform other duties assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred

  • Previous hotel experience preferred

  • Previous food and beverage supervisory experience preferred

  • Previous bartending experience preferred

  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses, certificates, or permits

  • Possessing a certificate of completion from the Guild of Sommeliers is strongly preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill tasks. Must be physically able to lift and carry heavy trays and equipment as well as delicate china and glassware. Up to 50 lbs. Also, you must be physically able to walk without assistance on various surfaces for an extended period of time. This position requires manual dexterity, grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, and climbing.

The pay scale* for Sommelier is $19.04

*The pay scale is the base salary or hourly wage range, exclusive of incentive pay such as commissions, piece rates, gratuities, and the like, that Montage reasonably expects to pay for the position.
