Little Tykes Learning Center Assistant Teacher (Part-time) in Havelock, North Carolina

An Assistant Teacher will provide a nurturing and safe environment for infants to develop and reach age appropriate milestones. You will demonstrate good judgment in the care and play with each infant assigned to you. You will verbally engage the children throughout the day in addition to incorporating play activities.

The ideal candidate will be a caring individual who enjoys teaching young children with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. You will have a GED or H.S. diploma and have completed the Early Childhood credentials or its equivalent as designed by the state of North Carolina Child Care authority. You will have the flexibility to work a shift between 6:00 am and 7:00 pm and have reliable transportation to the Child Care center to ensure consistency for the children. A clear background check, tuberculous test and health assessment are essential before an beginning employment.

Responsibilities for an Assistant Teacher

  • Provide a safe and loving environment for the children in his/her care
  • Give bottles to infants as provided by parents, if applicable
  • Feed infants' solid foods as age appropriate and provided by parents and/ or assist children during meals and snacks if applicable
  • Change diapers as needed
  • Soothe children by singing to and cuddling them or redirecting them
  • Supervise infants / children on the floor as they play with age appropriate toys
  • Put infants in cribs for nap time and / or children on cots for nap time
  • Ensure play, sleep and changing areas are kept clean

Qualifications for Assistant Teacher

  • Completion of the Early Childhood courses as designed by the state Child Care authority
  • Meet annual professional development requirements, per state regulations
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check
  • Caring individual who enjoys teaching young children
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Extended periods of time sitting on the floor
  • Ability to work a shift in between 6:00 am _ 7:00 pm that changes weekly
  • Reliable transportation to the Child Care center
  • Great customer service skills to communicate effectively with parents
