Job Description

Objectives of this Role

  • Build operational framework to manage platform infrastructure and Batch processes.

  • Run the production environment by monitoring availability and taking a holistic view of system health and Track and produce key metrics for the team and develop strategies to increase efficiency.

  • Improve reliability, quality, and time-to-market of our suite of business IT services.

  • Measure and optimize system performance, with an eye toward pushing our capabilities forward, getting ahead of customer needs, and innovating to continually improve.

  • Provide primary operational support and engineering for multiple large, distributed application systems including customer facing systems.

  • Work with business users, other teams inside Information Services, external teams to debug or troubleshoot application systems.

  • Provide innovative ideas/solution leading to cost reduction, efficiency improvement.

  • In the event of a system failure, the operations support engineer is required to report promptly, isolate the system problem area, and provide a workaround.

  • It is required to participate in the project from the early stages, provide and collect necessary information from the perspective of system operation, and provide appropriate L2 support from OAT implementation to system release and post-release.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Participate in and obtain approvals from local and regional change advisory boards for batch process changes.

  • Own and execute batch/job releases (scheduled and emergency) in on-premises and cloud environments.

  • Responsible for maintenance of systems documentation such as Batch operations Run Manuals.

  • Gather and analyze metrics from several monitoring tools (e.g., Batch job scheduler) to assist in performance tuning and fault finding.

  • Partner with development teams to improve services through rigorous operation acceptance testing and release procedures.

  • Participate in system design consulting, service management, event management, technology refresh, and capacity planning.

  • Create sustainable systems and services through automation and uplifts.

  • Balance feature development speed and reliability with well-defined service level objectives

  • Manage Managed Service Suppliers (MMS)

Responsibilities

  • Understand current processes of the production support team, the application development teams and the release management team.

  • Find areas to explore for improvement, analyze the problem landscape and come up with solutions.

  • Propose solutions to stakeholders and get buy-ins.

  • Implement and rollout solutions with various parties at the mindset of cross-functional team.

  • Document key information and share knowledge to uplift the engineering culture.

  • Measure the effectiveness of solutions and keep improving.

  • Carry out above activities with minimal guidance and supervision.

  • Report and share the status of your activities and escalate when requires attention.

  • Self-directed, self-motivated, self-starter and does not procrastinate.

  • Be a creator with insight, not an order taker.

Required Skills

  • 3+ years of similar experience.

  • Understanding of : Database, Web Application, Web Services, Micro Services/API, Messaging (MQ), ESB, BPM, Image Workflow, EDL (Data Lake), Content Management, Japan specifics (e.g., JBA File Transfer, HULFT) .

  • Experience with one or more of the following: Scheduling (CA A-AUTO, CA WLA, Hitachi JP1 AJS), SQL queries and scripting, Shell scripting, Power Shell scripting, MS Bat scripting.

  • Experience with Cloud technologies like Azure, AWS, GCP, as well as dynamic resource management frameworks such as Kubernetes, Mesos.

  • A proactive approach to identifying problems, areas for improvement, and performance bottlenecks.

  • Knowledge of financial services, specifically Insurance industry.

Desired Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to present, persuade and influence peers and vendors.

  • Previous success in technical engineering or application support.

  • Ability to program (structured and OO) with one or more high level languages, such as Python, Java, C/C++, Ruby, and JavaScript.

  • Experience with one or more of the following: Experience with Agile (Scrum or Kanban), Jira and ServiceNow, Jenkins, Bamboo, Maven, Git, BitBucket, Artifactory

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to present, persuade and influence peers and vendors.

  • Proficiency or above in Japanese.

  • Intermediate or above in English.
